D7000 available now at Best Buy

It's a shame BB is only stocking the D7000 with the 18-105 kit lens. I have zero interest in that lens and I have a feeling E-Bay and other outlets will be flooded with them, so selling them probably won't be easy either.

OK DVXUsers....who's stepping up? :) I think I might just have to make the jump....just one problem. :( I have to sell my T2i (no prob)...and glass (slight problem?) :( Might be a month or two before that happens. So....who's it gonna be? :)

Some high ISO stills that look pretty good so far...

This will prob be it for me. That's CRAZY good for that high of ISO. I know for vid it will be different....but I can't wait to upgrade all of my glass by 1-2 stops with superior low-noise shots. DANG!! That means that my 3.5 stuff will act like 2.5 at that level of ISO...SWWEEEETTTT!!!!! Like I said before....just gotta sell some T2i/Canon stuff now. :(

you can get a good idea of video noise by looking at a 1920x1080 crop, since that's the equivalent of line skipping, or downsample using nearest neighbor of course. looks good but not awesome to me.

Charging the battery of the D7000 I just picked up at the local Best Buy. Shazam!

Thanks to an internet tip, it was also purchased with a 12% discount. Double-shazam!!

This actually worked; I just had to sign up for the Best Buy free Reward Zone card to get the deal. Transferred the link above by email to my iPhone and showed them the code therein at the store, signed up for a free card, and out the door for $1411 including tax. I really only wanted the body but availability and out the door price = quick sale.

Highly recommended to call your local Best Buy location(s) quickly if you want one, the local stores each only had received three of them. It would appear to be a case of constrained availability and high demand. Turns out, I'm not the only person with Nikon glass who didn't bite on the D90 or D300s because I was waiting for the D7000.

CHARGE battery, CHARGE!

Just got mine at Best Buy. They were aware of the embargo (it had a note taped to it) but the Best Buy computer told them they were allowed to sell it.

I did not wait for the battery to charge - I've been trying it out.

So far, I am VERY impressed. Aperture setting before shooting is no big deal, because you can dial the ISO to get a good exposure. This is actually the right way to do it on such a low-noise camera as its more like putting in ND filters on a film camera.

Do you guys own a monitor?

My feeling with the D3s was that there was a delay to the monitor, and it dropped frames when panning

Can you describe the ease of controlling manual - again a double process on the D3s

Also does the AF work, like with a 14mm on a steadicam

I think i just stole the last d7000 in Los angeles. Playnig with it right now. NOt sure how to use manual video mode properly since I can´t adjust iris while on live view.

For those that were not able to get there's on time. Hitler understands your pain.

Well, to me it was expected. No surprise there. After all the fuss with the less than stellar video quality on the D90, the manual controls firmware on the 5D and the advent of the GH1, Nikon could not afford anything but the best quality available until now. If you don't think they have people researching the market then you don't know anything about business. And Nikon video won't stop there. Don't be surprise when they start applying the technology towards the video camera set up ala AF100. They will keep making news in the field. As somebody told me a long time ago: Nothing happens before it's time.
