D700 Compatibility with Older (pre-Intel) Macs

Sorry about the headline: I meant to type D7000 instead of D700 but for some reason I can't change the thread title.

I am planning to buy a D7000 ASAP but I need to know if it will work smoothly with a G5 Mac Quad (pre Intel) with Final Cut Pro 6 - 2.5 GHz (4GB RAM). Does anybody know about this or what is the best/easiest way to transfer 1080p video from it?

Any info would be GREATLY appreciated as I'm waiting to find this out before buying the camera. Thanks!

Hello,

The Nikon D7000 uses H.264 - MPG-4 AVC in a .MOV container so you should have no problems using a pre-Intel G5 Powermac. Make sure you are running the max amount of ram, and that your video card is at least 128mb better if 256mb or higher. I'm fairly certain that G5 has a max video card size of 512mb.

Good Luck

I've updated my OS and FCP as far as they can go for pre-Intel Macs. Eventually I'll have to get a newer Mac but this Quad has been performing perfectly for several years now. At the time I bought it was top of the line and it's still no slow poke. My fingers are crossed now, though because I just ordered the D7000 from Amazon and am hoping that the footage will work well. Even if the 1080p is sluggish I can deal with a lower setting for the time being.

Thanks for your help guys! This is the first place I've been able to get answers to my question.
