I wondered from day 1 why D800 has a live histogram in Live View and D600 doesn't and the only explanation is that they put more time in developing the D800 software vs the D600 or that they did it on purpose to "protect" the D800 supremacy in video.
But what I discovered while reading the manual (page 59) is that D600 in Manual (M) video live view mode can have one of the three configurable buttons (preview, Fn, AE-L) to display shooting information, and that includes an exposure meter, very similar to live vie picture mode. If you have auto iso enabled (disabled otherwise in M mode) camera will present the recommended iso for a proper exposure giving the shutter speed and aperture selected. This information is presented at the bottom of the screen.
Press the button one more time to return to video live view and adjust your iso accordingly and voila!
So it's not a replacement for the histogram but a good indicator for exposure. Is anyone using that?
