D5200, Tascam DR-60D, and Rode NTG-3 audio setup issues

Wondering if anyone else uses this combo or something close to share their setup info in camera and in the recorder. I cant seem to get clean audio.. The Tascam just doesn't seem to be enough to drive the Rode. The in camera audio from the line out to camera from the Tascam is so low and hissy. The audio in the Tascam is alright.

I use the NTG-3 with a mixpre going into a D600 with clean audio.
If you're using the Tascam line-out, wouldn't you need an attenuation cable to
bring it down to mic level into the camera?
