D5100 Hopes

[roxics]

The D7000 is a beautiful camera but a little too rich for my blood and the lack of flip out LCD a bit of a bummer for video work.

Here's hoping the D5100 (whenever it's released) has the flip out LCD the D5000 had (but side mounted this time) and inherits the video functions of its older brother(D7000) and not its younger brother (D3100).

It would also be nice to see a 1080p/30 option and 720p60 option. But considering the D7000 doesn't have those, I'm not holding my breath.

The D5000 was discontinued in November, seems like we should hear something about the D5100 pretty soon.

I own both a D5000 and (as of this week) a D7000. I am with you on the articulating screen. I'd love to see a D5100 that combines the best of the two cameras.

Hmm. Still no announcement of a D5100. What is going on? Are they really going to go half a year without a middle range camera on the market?

Latest RUMOR is that an announcement regarding the D5100 is imminent, and it will include a swivel screen that pivots to the side (rather than to the bottom as in the D5000).

It will be interesting to see whether it gets the sensor of the D3100 or the D7000...also whether they include a mic input.

Well it looks like my hopes came true. Plus the addition of 25 and 30p. Way to go Nikon.

Agreed, improvements abound... Better LCD resolution, side-pivoting screen, 1080P, mic input, some new firmware tweaks like HDR, & most importantly the D7000 sensor. I think they nailed it.

It will be interesting to see if they have beefed up the audio level controls of the D5100. Note that they announced a microphone (ME-1) along with the new camera.
