D5000 kit lens worth it?

Hi all, i'm about to purchase a Nikon D5000.. Do you think the 18-55mm is worth it? I'm probably goiong to buy a 50mm f1.8. What kind of shots would require a 18-55mm Vr, that I might miss? the price diff from the kit and the body only is $95.

Any input would help. Or suggestions.
 
how do you like the D5000? I just learned it had no in-body AF motor, which sucks cuz i was planning on getting the 50mm f1.8D. I dont know if i can stand manually focusing EVERY shot. What do you think abou the 35mm f1.8G AF-s. It's only $200 .. do you think just a 35mm is good enough for all-purpose shooting/filming?

I don't have the d5000, i use that lens with the d90 as part of a kit. It was only $50 more than the body so i thought whatever.
 
The D5000 body is $669 shipped right now. I'm going to wait alittle longer, and it seems the 35mm f1.8G af-s are sold out everywhere!!
