D4 Component Output

I'm ignorant on this so how will this output be used. Obviously I cannot plug it into the Component inputs of my current NLE? Is there some sort of component HD to SD convertor box?

I've asked questions about the D4 connector several times but the info appears to be unknown. It's a connector you find on some Japanese and other video gear, often used in place of DVI HDMI etc.

I'm curious as to the color-depth, resolutions, frame rates, etc. coming off it, esp for on-set monitoring...

there are D4 to component, DVI and HDMI connectors, but they are in literally short supply here in the US.

The D4 cable will have three RCA jacks coming off it, reg/green/blue. Just plug it into the component inputs of your HD monitor and it'll work.

Barry,

Do you know if the component out on the camera can serve as a bridge between an NLE and a monitor with HD component in? Or will I need a capture card, such as the DeckLink HD Pro, to do this?

Thanks,
Jeremy

I understand how to monitor the output. I am wondering how to use the output with a Accom Affinity NLE which has component (betacam) inputs.

Male or female? How long?

Not long enough, assume 18" to 3 feet. And most likely male RCA's, like the Z1U...

Pictures I've seen of the HVX hooked up at trade shows seem to indicate a realitively robust looking connector, so maybe some attention has been paid to making something that can withstand constant pluging/unpluging.

Some of the translated info we've seen lately indicates that the component output will be switchable between 480/720p/1080i. How flexible this is remains to be seen. We can hope that when in 480 it is also downconverting both 720p or 1080i. Will in 720p mode it convert 1080i you've shot? Who knows? My guess it that you can playback the mode you shot in, but again, speculation is speculation until we know.
