D3S HD Vid

stills look amazing (as expected), video, booooooourrns.

Lower than expectations, but clearly still very capable.

um yeah it's okay, but am I the only one that couldn't tell the difference between that and the quality of video & stills shot on a D90?

I mean come on peeps the thing was on a tripod, that's hardly going to push the codec & imager to see how it really performs.

I get so annoyed by these marketing style clips - it's like TV advertising for the lowest common denominator :-Dum(DBG):

It looks much better than the D90. That is pretty obvious.

Not even to mention that it's at 6400 and 12800.

Did you see the other post with a D300s on a hang glider?

Nope haven't seen the the hang glider clip yet but I'll check it out. Look, I agree the light sensitivity on this camera is at the top of the heap but we all know that DMovie has the worst skew effect of all HDSLRs, and sample clips shot with the camera mounted to a tripod on hard floor will never show this effect, nor will it show how the codec performs under the stress of camera movement.

Okay I just saw it, the shots of the Morning Glory were spectacular! But again the clip featured cameras that were always mounted to a hard surface so it didn't really answer the poignant questions of how the codec handles under duress & the effects of horizontal skew.

Though I understand the D-Movie in the D300s is the same as the D90.

The codec of the camera (MJPG) has nothing to do with skew.

Yes, I'm well aware of that, if you re-read my response you'll see it is a two part question:
...how the codec handles under duress & the effects of horizontal skew

Horizontal skew is a big problem for D-Movie along with time-limited recording (5 mins for D90 & 300S) and this is the sort of stuff we want to know about, not glossy marketing clips ;)

So far Canon is leading the pack with yet another 5DM2 firmware update & their new 1DMK4.
