D3100 (vs D7000)

So after searching online for footage taken with the D3100 and not finding anything I went to a store today. I have a small production coming and I´m going to need a small 2nd camera. Since the d7000 is not available and i sold my 5D, i thought the d3100 might be a good option for static shots in a tripod.

Yep, the d3100 is full auto (I forgot to check if the +/- button has any effect on video recording, i hope so) but the quality is pretty similar. A bit softer but less aliasing.

What's important for me is that both cameras seem to have the same colours and similar DR.

I have been interested in the 3100 as a cheap alternative, but didn't think I could live with auto again after the D90 experience. Thanks for the post, it will be interesting to see what comes out of this camera.

The DR on the 3100 close to the d7k, or better than 5D in your observations?

I'm glad you're an early adopter of the D7000, Macgregor. You have some great work and I can't wait for some more "polished" work created by yourself and the D7000!

yeah, the d3100 looks to be better than the d90, but is still pretty bad. The d7000 is the best from nikon yet, but still just keeping up with th rest of the major manufacturers. As of today the d70000 is my favorite hdslr, but will soon fall short of other brands just as the D90 fell short of canon.
