D3100 - Limitations?

Hi, I wonder if any of you guys could answer a couple of questions on the d3100 as a google search produced nothing but contradicting answers.

Is there ANY way to control shutter speed when shooting video? Perhaps by shooting video in shutter priority mode for instance?

Also, if I set ISO to 100 and turn off auto iso does it stay that way while shooting video or does it simply do what it wants to do based on the light it's getting?

Thanks :)

You can control the frame rate that the camera shoots video at e.g. 24fps or 30fps, its all down to the lens from there really.

It's complicated, but this is what I've found works best-

I put the camera in "A" mode and switch on the live view (remember that you have to set the aperture where you want it before switching on the live view, as it won't adjust properly as long as live view is on). Then you can use the EV compensation to adjust the shutter speed within a certain range (the image will stop changing when you reach the end of the range).

Now someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think adjusting the ISO will lock it down to an extent. I say this because I have found that changing the ISO settings changes the lightness of the image, but the cameras still varies it, depending on the available light. To make sure it gets set toward the lower end of its adjustment range, try to point the camera at a bright object while you adjust these settings.

After you've gotten everything the way you want it, hit the ae-lock button next to the wheel (go into the buttons menu and set it to "ae-lock hold," so that you don't have to hold the button down the whole time you're using it).

Let me know if this helps and if I can clarify anything!

Your only "control" over the shutter speed / iso is the EV adjustment, which only works in Aperture priority with chipped lenses. It's sort of an awful setup and the D5100 has the same problem. I use a D3100 with manual lenses so I really have no control at all except for aperture. Why Nikon set it up like this, I have no idea. Based on the jello effect it can't be reading the CMOS sensor faster than 30 fps, and yet everything looks like Saving Private Ryan.
