D300s workflow

I'm buying an D300s when it comes out. The plan is to make a film with it, making shots with a tripod and a steadytracker. I've got plenty of optics, so that is all ok.

EDITING:

I want to do color grading in Sony Vegas (first) and editing in Corel Videostudio 12 (second). What format should I use in exporting the files from Vegas? I presume converting to .mov is ok, as .avi doesn't offer many codecs in Vegas. If I convert to .mov, does it matter a lot if I use to MPEG-4 or MJEPG A? Size isn't the priority here, but retaining the quality is.

you want to grade first? why? except for creating a look the main purpose of grading is to match cuts, how you are you gonna do that if you haven't made the cuts yet?

I would wait till it comes out and let some other people test it first. The video Nikon is showing looks great but are they doing it in post. Don't be the first one to buy one.

Yes, the purpose is to make the look first. This will actually help editing, as I've planned out all the scenes before. I wont batc-process them though, so grading will be done on a clip-to-clip basis. I can always match the cuts later, but not necessarily, as it it already done during editing. This will be more time consuming than doing the coloring at the end, but I do want to do it like this for now.

so you're grading before and during editing, but not after? sounds like you're piling up on work for no apparent reason. i can totally see the need for setting the look before, but why not just use proxies then, and go back to the original for the final grade?

pregrade, export with same filenames, edit, replace with original files (just rename folders), export, open in grading program, grade. if your editing software can generate edl's it's even easier.
