D300S expsosure question/HDMI out

Hi--

First post here. I went out for a quick shoot with my new D300S the other evening, shot this:

I've found the camera, with the addition of a viewfinder loupe and/or a separate monitor, to be a cool creative tool. I do have a couple of questions for the experts:

1) My biggest issue was control of exposure time. A lot of my shots in bright light went to really short exposures. From the look of the footage, I'd say maybe 1/250 or even faster. I'd love to get this controlled and down in the 1/30-1/50 range for some pleasing motion blur. I've read about the Kholi method for the D90, but does anyone have any thoughts on how to control exposure time on the D300S?

2) When I plug the HDMI out into an HD monitor, the resolution looks really good (I'm set to 720p, and it looks like that). It stays good when recording. Does this mean you could record the HDMI with something like a nanoflash? Has anyone done this? Anyone have a nanoflash in San Diego and want to do a quick test?

Thanks for your time--

Yeah, but I'm a bit cautious about it until I can do some testing. And another caveat: the HDMI out appears to be the whole Liveview window, including data next to the frame, as well as the overlay over the image. So it might not be that usable.
