Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) Error...Fix?

I recently ran into a problem of clips being fine on the P2 card and then somewhere in the file transfer process (first to a "temp" external HD to my PC laptop & then to a 500GB archival HD) 4 clips became corrupted, would not copy and displayed a "Data Error: Cyclic Redundancy Error."

For those who may encounter a similar problem, there may be a fix/work-around to salvage your clips.

In a Google search, I found a little Java script Freeware program, JFileRecovery. This little program allowed me to mostly fix the corrupted files, and while there is artifacting at the error blocks, I can salvage all of the clips and use most of them, if I need to.

While it appears to be virus- & spyware-free, I can't vouch for it, but it is available here: http://jfilerecovery.michael-gardiner.qarchive.org/

Ciao!

It sounds like one of your drives are going up

Could be, and that's why redundantly saving on multiple drives is good...unfortunately, these 4 clips got corrupted somewhere in the P2-to-HD Archive chain.

Fortunately, 4 clips out of 10 hours of project footage is relatively inconsequential, but it is good to know that even those 4 clips are salvageable.:)
