CX350: CX-350 issue

I just got my CX-350 in the mail today. The camera appears to be in perfect condition besides this weird black protrusion at the bottom. It appears on the lcd screen, in the viewfinder and doesn’t go away even when zoomed in. Any thoughts?

Something is misaligned, likely an internal ND filter. Check the ND filter selector on the side of the camera, and make sure it isn’t in between filter options.

Does it move at all?

IR filter may have come loose and is stuck (but still in front of the sensor) if you see NDs cycling mechanically well...really can't think of anything else since you said it's still there when zoomed in, eliminating the possibility of it being a screw-on filter that's too small, a botched lens hood or a step-up/down ring that someone left on the thread, which you'd likely see all three and know.

It’s the IR filter! Turn it on it goes away but if I turn it off it comes right back. Any solutions besides sending it off?

I would use AC power and repeatedly press the button on and off a bunch of times, different combinations, and see if that could electronically get it out of its funk.

If something else broke that works with it then it likely won't work and you'll have to send it somewhere.

I also use AI for everything, and after a quick search - which could be wrong - some solutions when scanning the results of conversations across the internet involved users switching to other modes in the camera which might force it to work correctly (like a night mode or black and white mode), using a magnet around the area, and/or shaking the camera or moving it in a certain direction as you press the button to try to get the filter to move.

All of this is at your own risk if you decide to do any of it.

I bought CX350 on eBay with normal hours but never seen this particular issue.

I have had problems buying low hour cameras off Ebay, It’s a red flag. Someone returned it then the retailer, pawnshop or owner is using eBay to sell it to an unsuspecting buyer with the hopes they won't notice the problem.

One of the cameras I bought had low hours I luckily recognized it had an intermittent focus and sensor issues that took 2 months to resolve sending it back to Panasonic repair facility three times.

Many of these type of issues are caused by dropping the camera causing misalignment of lens, sensor or in this case ND filter.

If you have time and patience getting it repaired go for it otherwise if you need to use the camera or you can’t risk the issue reoccurring during a job I’d recommend returning it.

Unfortunately eBay has become a dumping ground.

I agree with Peter, if you can, I would send it back. I am not sure how you turn the IR filter on or off with this camera? I do not think it has a "night vision" mode.
