I have been asked to cut a trailer for a video that is only on DVD. I have no idea of how to go about this. And I really dont want to have to record the whole stupid thing to MiniDV then capture it.

Can anyone tell me how I can get just the video and audio of the main feature off the disc and import them into avid for editing?!?

Thanks!!

You can also use your DV Cam or Deck as a pass through into Avid. Plug the DVD player into the video in on your DV device, then firewire from the DV device to Avid. In the capture tool turn off deck control and then you can capture.

Thanks for your guys help...ripping the DVD did not work because I couldnt get it into a usable file. Then I tried running the DVD thru my DVX then firewiring into AVid. I could see picture on the preview but could not caputre it because Avid wanted me to run tape in the DVX...so in this case I just had to record from the DVD to my DVX the choices cuts then capture from the camera...what a drag. Thanks for you help guys!!

Avid wanted me to run tape in the DVX

No, Avid just wanted the name of a tape. If you would have specified one then you could have captured regardless of whether or not there was a real tape in the DVX. Knowledge for next time.

There are also preset deck templates for live video signals versus decks or cameras. For live signals it can use the computer time on your system. If you log an IN and OUT for a later time, it will act like a TIVO and record it.
