EVA1: Custom Truck Shoot

Nice.

But trucks spots should have less static shots and much more overcranked going-thru-the-mud shots, imo.

Especially on those TRDs, which is what they re made for.

I wish they would have let me shoot them going crazy off road, but the guys that drove those trucks to the location were terrified of getting them dirty. Lol. They originally asked for stills for the web. The 4K images made good stills. They wanted shots to show off all of the upgrades. I also made this:

Wow the image is insanely sharp in an unflattering way, and your shots would have benefited from some movement. Camera movement or car movement.

Im just looking at some eva footage for the first time. And your clips feel like stills, but a stills camera like the Canon 5D would produce a softer image more organic looking image. I'm Not so sure I like how the image is being rendered with your current setup.
Maybe some vintage glass and filtration would help take that digital edge off ?

Funny you mentioned that, stills are exactly what the client wanted. I wasn’t really there to shoot a video. The Eva1 image is really flexible in post. I was shooting one of the more contrasty looks and turned the video into stills. If the intention was video, I would have shot log and brought a jib, slider and/or gimbal. Plus, I would have the truck moving. It would not be just me, a tripod and a camera for a couple of hours. You guys obviously understand working within limited budgets and doing what the client wants.

Just to be clear, the first link is me putting together a video based on the footage i shot. The second link is to a video created with stills from the camera. I know it’s a little silly to shoot stills with a video camera, but it was a way for me to go out and shoot more Eva 1 footage. I do love this camera.

Given the parameters of the shoot I'd say you got exactly what you wanted. For those who would like to see it a "less sharp" image, it's easy to lower resolving power in various way in post, but pretty much impossible to go the other direction!

There seems to be a push of late by some people to label this camera as "VIDEOISH" and "TOO SHARP". I think just because you see a look in one video that you don't like, you shouldn't label the camera as these two things. Sharpness can be reduced and v-log can be graded to look very cinematic or whatever look you are going for.
