I also heard from people who have 35mm adaptors that it's better to shoot at D for the KNEE because the out of focus "bokeh-ed" part of your shot can flare up and overexpose more easily.
But yes, assuming let's say you have a controlled lighting situation and you know you aren't overexposing, regular Cinelike gives you the most true dynamic range and least noise.
