Curious about the mood at DVXuser

First of all, I love this site. I have learned more about filmmaking here than anywhere else. One of the things that I love about it, is that it's a pleasant environment. There are no flame wars, no heated political discussions and you can have a valid disagreement about something subjective. This is uncommon on the web. Anyone who has tried to have an intelligent discourse about a film in IMDb, only to met with ignorant, expletive-draped rants knows that.

But something seems...weird.

I tried to type the word sh*t in a post today...it came out as 'Poo-poo" What's that all about? poo-poo? Come on. Are we so easily offended that we can't say poo poo? See there it goes again. It seems extreme.

I've been out of the loop for about 8 months, trying to get some films done. I've only been back on the board for a few days, but I already notice some pretty high-profile people aren't around (or maybe I just haven't seen them) Guys like J_Barnes, Pookie and Xcheck. These were guys who stirred the pot now and again. I didn't always agree with their opinions or their approach, but I respected their POV, and learned from them more than once.

Now, I don't want this to be like a schoolyard. I like that it's reasonable. But i don't want it to be like my repressive Catholic School classroom either.

Is it just me?

They're all still around. If they're not posting (or as much), they may have their reasons. Didn't you take a sabbatical that had nothing to do with the mood here? I wouldn't read too much into it.

The language filters went up because it was getting waaaay out of hand. Being out of the loop for 8 months, you missed out on some of the fun.

Pookie quit coming to dvxuser a few weeks ago.

Sure poo poo sounds childish but its kind of funny in a way. When someone says a curse word it comes out as poo poo. I like it.

lol - I didn't realize there was a language filter...I just thought the phrase "poo poo" had grown enormously popular.

I'm glad it's just me. Thanks for clearing it up guys. **** **** **** cunt

yep, that filter works on what I throw at it.

Yeah, I didn't realize that until about a week or two ago. LOL! Pretty funny. I think things on dvxuser couldn't be better.

Pretty sure he's still around.

Everyone keeps saying that....
I feel like I'm missing something - too slow to read between the lines I guess.

Pookie is starting to sound like Keyser Soze.

"And like that....(poof).... he's gone."

I prefer honest opinions to couched rhetoric, even though I am a purveyor of the latter. You always know where you stand with Pookie. Besides, for everytime he pissed me off, he made laugh at least 10 times

Sometimes I think that forums should require real names and verify them (yeah like that's possible) because it discourages people from playing both sides of the net. I think we all want the same thing from this site... we want the respect of others, to entertain and be entertained by others, to inform and be informed by others, and to be liked and welcomed for being ourselves.

All the aliases say, "welcome me, like me, respect me, but let me yell at you through the crack in the door if I want to also"... and some people can't brush off disagreements so easily as others do.

Next thing you know people are holding awkward grudges.

Maybe that's not what happens... what the hell do I know.
