Cure for Writer's Block: No. 9 - OFFICIAL THREAD

Dear fellow DVXUsers and friends:

It's been a few months since I've been around the boards. Much has happened since HorrorFest and I'd like to start by officially opening up a new thread here in the "User Films" area.

Cure for Writer's Block: No. 9 was my first "official" film. The DVXUser HorrorFest in 2006 really gave me the initiative to get off my ass and make a movie. It's been a long time coming and I'm glad to have had the support and help from all of you guys and gals.

After HorrorFest, I put the film "in the drawer" for a couple of months. I pulled it back out again after Thanksgiving and began a month-long adventure of redesigning/remixing the sound, shooting a few pick-ups, inserting and re-editing some sequences. Ultimately I wound up with a nice little nine-minute film that I am really proud of. Thanks to my "crew", DVXUsers Jeremy Poindexter (my D.P.) and Christopher Eugster (all around important guy). And thanks again to all my fellow filmmakers here. I really appreciate your time and posts.

So here's the latest scoop...

that rocks john! Way to get your film out there to the world. I'd love to see the 9 minute cut so I'll definitely be watching this thread.

All the best!

Dude I remeber this short from horrorfest. I was in last years Cinevegas Film Fest. Saw some great shorts. Can definately see your film in Cinevegas. (which is a good fest) And some films I saw at cinevegas last year ended up at sundance.

Moral of the story? Submit your film to Cinevegas and Sundance for sure. When it gets accepted let me know and we'll hang out at least at this years Cinevegas.

Congrats.

Brandon, Edgen, Charli - Thanks guys! I appreciate it!

STYLZ - Cinevegas looks cool (my aunt has a place out in Sin City, so I always got a place to crash!). The only thing is I'd have to bump up to DigiBeta in order to screen, if accepted, and I don't have the dinero to do that at this time. Same reason why I didn't submit to LAFF. But you never know!

Thanks again for all the support here at DVXUser. I can honestly say this film would not have been made without the kick in the ass this place gave me to finally go out and do something. I do appreciate it.

Hey John, Good for you for getting your film out there. I, too, am interested in seeing the new cut. Loved the original!!!

Keep up the great work.

Thanks Ted! I'm going to work on a special DVXUser link to view the festival cut. I'm going to work hard on the whole compression and quality thing, so it might take a while. =)

I'm looking to get a typewriter right now.

Did that typewriter actually work? If so did you already own it, or did you eBay it?

For the film, I purchased three typewriters off of eBay. The old manual typewriters weigh several thousand pounds each, so I tried to find them as local as I could to save on shipping.

L.a. Screening Tomorrow Night!

L.a. Screening Tomorrow Night!

I'd like to personally invite everybody to the screening tomorrow night of my short film, Cure for Writer's Block: No. 9. This was workshopped here at last year's DVXUser HorrorFest. Another DVXUser user film, The Wine Bar, will also be screening in the same block. The block starts at 6:30 and opens with a feature film followed by a handful of shorts. At the Fairfax Theater in Hollywood. Best of all - SCREENING IS FREE TO THE PUBLIC!
