DJ's Shadowkit is on sale for $199 - can be useful to have in your arsenal. I have used it - easy and fast to set up. You can make your own, by for example cutting patterns in foam board, but the DJ kit breaks down and rolls up so it's easier to transport. The cost for commercially available flexible cucoloris patterns add up pretty fast (f.ex. on B&H), so the DJ Shadowkit is economical at this price, if you ever use this kind of light modifier.
 
Thanks for mentioning this. I've wanted something like this for a long time but at $500 it was way too expensive. At $200 its worth it.
 
I bought this and am pretty happy with it though its a heavier bigger bag with the 3x3 frame than I want to cart around for many shoots. However I figured out that with a little futzing I can hang them directly off a c stand arm and fit them into a small gelly roll. The frame would be nice on a stage or any set up where you have the people to cart around a bunch of stuff though.
