Hey all,

Just wanted to help spread some buzz about a feature length '24' spoof I directed.

The movie is starting to get noticed by the '24' fan community, and I thought I'd get the digi/indie filmmaker community in on the action.

From www.24fans.com
“CTU: Provo” is a fanmade ‘parody-homage’ which runs to a full 90 minutes. Don’t be mislead by the word fanmade, the film has very impressive production qualities, enjoys an excellent cast, a solid script and direction which at times is more inventive than that shown on the show itself in recent times.

Check the film out at www.ctuprovo.com and if you have the time or inclination, please leave us feedback, both here and on our forums...

Keep in mind, we shot a feature using a 100% volunteer cast and crew, and only spent $15,000 to make it. This is essentially what I did instead of going to film school, so... be gentle ;)

My best to all you DVXUsers...

Care to talk about what your full setup was? Any behind the scenes? How'd you make this happen for 15K?

As far as behind the scenes goes, we'll actually have a DVD available in the next month or thereabouts, stay tuned to www.ctuprovo.com for updates.

Are you talking camera setup? 1 HVX, an 8 GB and a 4GB card, Bogen 525 tripod/head, foxi focus-remote, and that's pretty much it.

Grip/Electical was pretty sad too. We had 3 Robert Rodrigues lights (that we didn't use enough, sadly) a Norm's doorway dolly, with rubber tires or 28' of track and skaters, and an Advanta-Jib Lite. I also went flying one day in a small private plane to get our aerial footage.

Our post setup was basically me, a 24" iMac 2.33 Ghz with 3 GB RAM, and Final Cut Studio 2. I cut the movie, did 200+ FX shots in Motion, and color corrected in Color. Our sound designer did his design on a Mac Pro running Pro Tools LE, and we mixed it in his home theater in his apartment. Needless to say, a 2 person post process for a feature takes approximately 8 months, 16 hours a day.

Getting a feature done for $15,000 requires a lot of work, a lot of luck, a lot of people that believe in you, and complete insanity. It also requires a 5 month shoot (since you have to work around the entire cast/crew's schedules,) and insanity. Did I mention insanity?

One of the reasons we decided to do a '24' parody for this project was, it was relatively easy to imitate (mostly hand-held) That being said, we stray from their formula in a couple significant ways (mainly, the real-time thing) and obviously, there are some issues with lighting in some scenes, and loads of other stuff I'm not particularly happy with, but, hey... We only spent $15,000

Yeah, sorry about that. The previous thread got locked, due to dumbness on my part. Apologies all around for dumbness.

Hey man. Good to see you on here... nifty flash site you've got up too. Good luck with this. Didn't know you spent $15k on it. Good job.
