CS6 Feedback.

Before I jump head first into Premiere CS6 from CS5, I want to get some feedback from people who have tried CS6. I don't want a repeat of the experiences of the past where every other Adobe Premiere upgrade turned out to be a downgrade in stability and useability. Here is the past record:

PREMIERE 5.0 was a disaster as it lost elements of the timeline. Fix came with patch 5.1c.

PREMIERE PR0 1.0 was incabable of exporting anything but AVI files. The encoder was defective for anything else.

PREMIERE CS4 was slow and unstable. Many went back to CS3 until CS5 came out.

Will I be the next CS6 Guinea pig? I think not. So let's share some feedback here. One of the things I generally don't like about the Adobe software is that you can't use the dynamic link unless you purchase the Production bundle. I have After Effects and Premiere but since I purchased them separately, I can't go back and forth between them without exporting everytime through an intermediate codec. Can that be fixed using CLOUD in CS6? The other annoying thing about Premiere Standalone version is that it has less Chroma Keying options than the Premiere Bundled version. Adobe never informs the users about these differences. So perhaps it is time they made a distinction between Premiere Production Bundle and Premiere standalone.

Enough said. Let's hear some feedback on CS6.

Do your own research by using the CS6 Trial version and satisfy your self to your own ends and purposes.

I have been using CS6 for a week and I love it. I came from FCP7 so it's a big improvement. Played around with CS5.5 but didn't commit. A few things bugged me and playback with IO cards was a big problem. This has been fixed big time with Adobe Mercury Transmit. I'm using a Blackmagic IO card and it's working very well. At work they have the AJA Kona and software for them haven't been released yet. Soon I hope.

CS6 is a rewrite not an update and it feels very responsive. I'm still learning the new shortcuts and getting faster. The software hasn't crashed on me yet while editing for several hours at a time. Bringing in After Effects comps works amazingly well. I have some titles I use all the time for sweeps promos that get updated for each promo. I made changes to the title then import into Premiere and it plays without rendering. Awesome! So yeah I'm pretty happy.

If you have CS5 you should upgrade. In fact you should have taken the deal to upgrade to CS5.5 for $375 and get CS6 for free. This is probably the most relevant upgrade for Adobe Production Premium in a long time. It truly works as a suite now more than ever.

Problem is I don't have the suite. Just Premiere and After effects as standalones. It is quite annoying not to be able to use dynamic link.

As of CS6 DynamicLink is available between standalone applications without requiring the suite.

The company has changed its business model with CS6. I think that is the most important thing about this new version.

Subscription services are an excellent way of putting users into accounts instead of pirate bay. The Dynamic Link is awesome. You'll love it more as you use it.

CS6 is a major upgrade from the previous versions. I've been working with it since last week and I can honestly say I trust it to be my moneymaking NLE. If you're not sure try the full functioning trial. I've only briefly opened the other apps of the Production Premiume Suite (Speedgrade, Prelude and a few others) but this version is much stronger than the CS5 or CS5.5. I can only see it getting better from here on out.

CS6 is awesome! Now has dynamic J-K-L trimming and commenting on individual clips, which were the last two points that kept me clinging to Avid for certain projects. We're also finding CS6 to be much better performing on both our Mac and Windows systems than CS5.5. IMHO Adobe has claimed the top spot of the 3 A's of editing (apple, avid, & adobe). We also really like the subscription model, as it keeps us running with the latest versions while spreading the cost over a rolling basis.

So far, I've had an excellent experience with CS6 (namely Premiere Pro). The screen real estate is use much more efficiently, and the Adobe Media Encoder seems to encode my P2 sequences ridiculously fast.

One thing I do not like, however was the removal of OnLocation from the Production Premium, and its replacement with Adobe Prelude.
OnLocation was great because I could use my laptop as a monitor, or even a recording device. Prelude doesn't do that.

Seems to me that Prelude is just Adobe's answer to P2Viewer.

I'm just getting up and running with it. It is MUCH more stable! I haven't had a crash yet in about 6 - 8 hours of work (knock wood). I like the new interface and I like the new audio mapping.. I think. So far, I'm very glad I upgraded.
