CS4 Dynamic Link Question

For those using Prem with After Effects...

I've noticed that the dynamic link stuff is great in theory but in reality it's confusing and eats up resources like crazy. There's always an AfterFX.exe process running and eating even after you've rendered everything in Premiere and don't necessarily need AE anymore. Also, it buries the rendered files in folders with obscure names.

Being new to this workflow, what is the traditional workflow / preDynamicLink? / what works best for folks?

Also - when I import HMC footage into Premiere, it always "conforms" it. I had to set my media cache to my video drive because it was eating up so much space on the system drive. If my footage/audio is captured at 48k then why does Prem create another audio file for editing?? This seems strange to me.

Thanks.

Change the file path when you export it instead of accepting the default file path. You have the power to place the files where you want them to be. :)

I still prefer to render out my AE Compositions to physical files that i import to Pr. I do however use Dynamic Link to import the Pr Timeline to AE and export to SD when needed because AE scales down the footage from HD > SD better than Pr, even when using Maximum Render Quality in Pr.

Pr always conforms compressed audio.
