CS 5.5 pre-purchase thoughts

Hmhm..

I am just doing post on Ae CS 5.5 for my latest music-video, and I am swearing it is last one on that.. I have something like 260 clips in 4 minutes.. rotobrush - sometimes works, sometimes don't.. and neatvideo crashes damn thing several times ( then I got to go over the whole project and clean out all neatvideo filters ).. Editing in Premiere CS5.5 was OK ( FS100 and GH13 files ).. But AE is a nightmare..

Thinking of davinci Resolve for post ( I am doing mostly CC, greenscreen, and some tracking )..but you don't have denoiser in the lite version :(( ..and if you want better performance, you need killer hardware..

Oh yes, I am on i7 PC..but only 6 GB RAM..

This is your problem, though. Tools like Rotobrush and NeatVideo are EXTREMELY intensive, especially Rotobrush. For all of the greenscreen and roto work I've done in the last 7 months, I've used the Rotobrush once, and it was for a 6-second clip. I highly recommend using several masks with different opacities to get the desired roto. Without a very powerful computer - and even then - the Rotobrush tool is going to hurt you more than help you.

CS5.5 is not perfect, but it's damn near stellar, you just have to make the most of the tools that work really well, instead of trying to make tools that are new carry your workflow.

Best of all Terry, you can upgrade to CS6 which will include the very capable coloring program Speedgrade (I'm pretty sure it will be in CS6).

I really can't wait! The only reason I still use Final Cut Studio is for Color. Once Speedgrade hits, I can ditch FCP completely.

I think you will be very pleased with your purchase, Terry.
