Crystal Clear Quicktime Trailers

Just wondering what the best way to deliver to the internet is?
Camera: HVX 200 w/P2
Settings: 720p
Editng on FCP

What compression setting are they using for quicktime trailers? The quality is beyond anything.

The H.264 codec seems to be all the rage these days when it comes to compressing HD content for the web. It's the codec they use for the quicktime trailers as well.

If you sent me a few more specs on your video I could probably give you further advice on what specific settings to use (the amount of movement in the frames, frame rate, etc.).

One of my friends at apple says that they don't use Quicktime compressor to do the Trailers for on the apple.com/trailers page.

They use professional h.264 compressor solution into .mp4

I'm curious about this as well. For the best possible web movie of sensible size, what should the specs be in an h264 compression. I'm using 720PN also. In compressor I've tried doing the LAN preset with the default video settings and it looks crappy (medium quality, key frames every 150, 23.97 fps, and restricted to 1372 kbps). On the drop-down I reselected h264 and it changed the parameters (to high quality, key frames every 24, current fps, and auto data rate). This made it look much better. It seems to have more to do with the key frames, than it does the quality setting. I assume "current fps" is the same as 23.97? And I don't know what to do for restricting the kbps. Is there a better way? This has worked best for me so far.
thanks,

whoa whoa whoa ...

You got a 9MB video with comparible qaulity to what the web preset would give you as a 64MB file?! That's almost an 80% improvement?!!!

How how how? Please tell?

You say similar to short's settings? ... set to high quality, key frame every 24 frames, current frame rate, and you get an 80% smaller file?

EDIT: Oh ... I see you are comparing it to having the Data restriced to 4500Kbps, which is three times the data through rate of the lan preset ... which would be way too high.

here is a clip with the settings I used above. So its shot in 720 24pN, edited, then exported with Compressor 2. First, I select the preset for Web Download (QT 7) though this isn't necessary; I then make the dimensions 800x450 (constraining to 16x9), I go in video settings and reselect H.264 from that top dropdown and that resets all the other settings correctly (keyframes every 24, etc). This is a 23 MB file from a 733 MB file.

i'm not sure what the forum rules are, but there is nudity in the clip (its not pornographic), so if you are offended by that don't watch it.

Sorry delted my post Jack, through quicktime I've been getting 800ish MB exported out of FCP as quicktime .mov videos down to 9mb (640 x 360) but I'd prefer slightly better quality. I've been using somewhere in between medium-high quality, h.264, keyframes every 24frames, and current frame rate like you said. I've just been messing around restricting the data rate and 4500 was a test so I could compare the quality and file size to what I've been doing. I'm still playing around to find something that I'm happy with.
