AVID 60 second contest video shot with DVX100a

I remember seeing this before...I think it is FANTASTIC. It tells a great visual story and the voice over works perfectly. Honestly, I think this one should have one.

Thanks!

Yeah, the voice over was actually about 2 mins long and I had to cut it down to 60sec, it ended up working out better because I cut really specific phrases out and linked them together.

excellent

excellent

Yes i remember this one...I LOVED it...hehe it reminded me of a commercial I saw I while ago maybe for HP or suttin... very inspiring...

The parts where you "took the snap shots" were those just pausing the video?... and when you were backing away from the wall at the end was that composited in there, or just really posted up there? If it was composited howd you get it to look so much like the rest and not be shaky with the keying? I dont know...I actually tried that effect and it came out fairly shaky and actually looked like a video on the screen not something that was on the wall...Congrats on it though...I dont get how the time lapse guy won over that really....oh well Nice job

I'm not too sure why you didn't win, I thought your video was by far the best. The only thing I would change is the transition between the space needle and the girl driving. I just thought it was a little distracting and took away from the subdued quality of your video.

This makes me wonder if the folks at Avid have any sense at all. Your piece seems derived from the HP commercial, but the 60 seconds to Vegas winner was lame in comparison. I'm a rank amateur and don't see anything in the "60 seconds to Vegas" bit I couldn't put together.
If you can do this with FCP...what do you want Avid Xpress Pro for?

Thanks for all the wonderful compliments

RichardVClark - Thanks for the imput. Yeah i agree, i very much dislike that transisiton too. A couple days after I made the video, i looked at it and said "what was I thinking"

Yeah, its really wired because I havent seen the HP commercial yet, what is it exactly? did it recently come out, I dont have cable I just use internet TV.

I thought the winners movie was reletivly uncreative but I still respect why Avid chose him. He won a trip to NAB, but basically DVX user had such good coverage of the event I didnt even feel like i missed out TC's pics were awesome.

The snapshots part was using freezeframes that were overlayed in FCP. The backing away from the wall was done by printing a frame on the wall and zooming at a constant speed away from it. I didnt have time to composite it, but about two weeks after i sent the video in I got a composited version to look exactly like it. What I did was use four pieces of painters tape cut into squares and placed them where the picture would be, and then I placed another piece of painters tape in the far left corner of the room. In After Effects I used the tracking feature with scaling and tracking turned on. I tracked the tape on the pic and then used the scaling feature and tracked it to the tape on the left corner of the wall. It worked seamlessly and I wish I had done this for the video because it actually worked better in flowing from the camera to the wall. The first try i got some jitter so I used the Easy Ease keyframe function and it worked really well, but on my second try it worked even better without jitter at all.

Anyways, thanks, I should do some more tests and post the composited version.

that was sweet. My only complaint would be that some of the voice over was a bit too choppy. (i felt like in the beggining it should have been more fluid) but as you said you chopped it up from 2mins. That was great work. Glad you won a free copy :)

Yeah the V/O was a bit choppy, but hey, its becuase I chopped it =)

Sweet, the HP comms are awesome. I can def. see how mine relates. I gotta find out how they did that effect on the commercials, thats awesome.
