hi

could an experienced user please help me figure out how to crush the blacks in sony vegas. i been reading a lot about it and realized it sort of increases the contrast.....in FCP i saw they have luminance control for each of the "bands"blacks, mids, and whites.

is there an equivalent way of controlling the same luminance in vegas?

is the sony levels plugin meant to do sort of similar effect?

well, in vegas, i have found that in the Color Corrector, there's an option to go from "Studio to Computer RGB"...it's not bad for well-lit footage, as it will slightly crush black, but it also affects contrast, so use wisely. i've been happy with it as a preset. unfortunately you can't fine tune it. it is what it is.

The color corrector also has a gamma setting that will help crush blacks, or you can create a slight "S" in the color curves effect. This is the best way to go.

You have way too many ways to crush blacks in Vegas ;-)

The Color corrector is great for ... color correction, especially white balance correction. You could do other things with it, but its cumbersome.

There is the Color Curves fx, which is much better for playing with gamma curves.

The Levels effect is imho the simplest and fastest tool for controlling black and white levels, and for stretching or compressing luminance.

Finally, there is the Black Restore fx, which is made specially for crushing blacks. And if this is all you want that this is your boy.

thanx pple...........the black restore and color curves are magical. i had them but had lightest clue.

thanx again.
