Crows Landing (the whole thing)

Re: Crows Landing (the whole thing)

Wow! Talk about altered reality! Great Job Drew. i like the way you built up the tension. Great storytelling skills too. Well done!

Re: Crows Landing (the whole thing)

Thanks man. Its okay for what it is. I'm working on something new right now but its going to be a while until I shot anything for it. I've just started writing it. But thanks for watching the short.

Re: Crows Landing (the whole thing)

Hey, that was great. Very creative and very well portrayed. I liked your use of available lighting, yet keeping a very cinematic feel. I do have one complaint. Next time you post a short film, don't post the ending first! When I first watched the ending I was like, what the heck? But then, about half way through watching the full thing, I understood. I would have enjoyed it more if I could have watched it all the way through the first time and been surprised by the ending. Other than that, great job. It's one of those "have to keep watching to find out what the hell is going on" short films. My kind of stuff.

Re: Crows Landing (the whole thing)

I need a break from writing. So I watched this with my review brain on.

1. Love the Black on White titles. Not something you see very often. The fact that you did it shows you have creativity.
2. Loved the pull from the headlight.
3. Lighting was weak in INT shot of car. Wish we all had a KINO stash.
4. Loved the transition of time (dawn while driving)

1. No external mic? It sounded like the onboard.
2. I loved the alarm for some reason. I do feel his reaction was too fast.
3. I felt it lacked somewhat in story in that it left me asking questions of who, what, why? But felt it makes up for these questions in terms of the scifi aspect and the repeating (ground hogs day) which I loved.

Your shots looked very planned out. That is great. Correct me if Im wrong, but it appears you knew exactly what you were after going into it. I imagine it was the two of you? NOt bad considering. I liked enough to want to see more.

Re: Crows Landing (the whole thing)

Yeah, sorry about putting the ending on here first. But that was all I was going to put on here. Its the part of the short I enjoy the most so that's why it was on here first.

Re: Crows Landing (the whole thing)

Thanks John for list of things you liked and didn't like about the short. The lighting was rather weak in the truck but I was trying to make it seem like he was in a truck on the road out in the middle of nowhere. Still I do agree it would have been better with some more lights. Maybe next time.

Yeah I used the onboard mic, mainly because I had no one to hold a boom and that there was no dialog. It would have been nice to have better sound but that's something I'm still working on.

The story was suppose to be making you ask those questions of who, what and why. I wanted it to be left up to the person watching it. Let people make up their own mind about it, instead of laying it out in a clear path. I don't think all movies sould be like that...just this one.

I storyboarded all of the shots. So that's why they look planned out. But some of them we had to make up on the fly because we couldn't do certain things like running across a busy freeway. Also shooting at dusk was a bit of a challenge because the light would run out so fast.

Thanks for watching it and the feedback.

Re: Crows Landing (the whole thing)

I had a strong feeling you storyboarded. Cool. I love storyboarding and anything pre-vis. It was great. Keep it up!

Re: Crows Landing (the whole thing)

I showed it a private festival for one of the places I work at and that's it so far. I have only tried for a couple festivals but no luck with them. I might try iFilm or TriggerStreet. The thing is I know the film is okay and I know I can do better than this. So I'm going to save my energy for the next short I'm working on. I'm glad that I can post it here and have people see it and give me some feedback on it.

Re: Crows Landing (the whole thing)

Very enjoyable. I'm looking foward to your future projects.

Re: Crows Landing (the whole thing)

Thanks Trucci. Somethings in the works right now. Plus I might be doing some shorts for the snowboarding video I'm working on. Dark stuff...kind of intros to peoples' parts.
