Cross-border warranty?

This should be a pretty simple question.

I live in Canada and wish to purchase an HMC40 from a US company. I would like to know whether the camera will still be covered by warranty. I tried looking at the Panasonic websites (US and Canada), and it appears the warranty is the same within both jurisdictions.

However, is the US warranty only applicable to US sales, and is the Canadian warranty only available for Canadian sales?

If anyone knows the quick answer to this, I would be happy to hear it. Otherwise, I will have to call Panasonic on Monday.
 
after waiting on hold for roughly 50 minutes today (20 mins, and then another 30 mins on the second call), i found out that if i buy a camcorder from the US, i do not get any warrantee with it.

there is something wrong with that. this means that i will need to order from a canadian store and pay a several hundred dollar premium. w00t.

maybe i should just get a vDSLR and save some money.

If you purchase a US camera from an Authorized US dealer, the camera has a US manufacturers warranty. There are a few things to consider:

1) No matter what, if you have an issue that is covered by the warranty, the camera needs to be sent to a US service center. A Canadian service center can repair your camera, but they cannot repair it under warranty.

So if you drop the camera and break the LCD screen off, you can send it to a local shop. If a board fails and it's covered, it needs to go to Panasonic US.

2) They will not cover shipping back to you outside of the US.

3) Perhaps most important, you can't register a US camera to an address outside of the US. So to register the extended warranty, or any rebates that may be available, you need to register to a US address if possible.
