FS7: Crop mode. Minimum menu dig

Before shooting Press the User Menu Button, navigate to the Base Setting menu select the Imager Scan Mode, Press the User Menu Button.

When shooting and you need to enter crop mode pressing the User Menu will take you straight to the Imager Scan Mode entry and you can click and change to crop mode. Repeat process to go back to Normal Scan.

It's the only way I can think to get straight there.

I've also got the Base Setting Menu item at the top of my User Menu if I forget to preload the Menu position before shooting.

I used the method Nirv described on a live event shoot last night. Worked wonders. The HDMI out just blinked a little and i could zoom out from about 450mm to 105mm with just a 70-200 lens coupled with a crop Metabones.

+1

Exactly what I've been doing with the User Menu.

I actually used the Center Crop yesterday with the 28-135 Sony lens and was very pleased with results.

Ha, my nice 50-300 mm Nikkor becomes a 100-600 mm lens. And my not so expensive Nikkor 400 mm 800mm. Time for a concrete tripod and IR remote.

Shame is that Center Scan is choosable only in HFR in Slow & Quick menu and not in normal slow motion, 60p and below.
Then you could set your slow motion mode to 24p and center scan and access it by just pressing slow motion button.
One caveat that it would be without sound. (why on earth sound is excluded from slow motion??? It's present even in slow motion on GH4)

Side note:
Is it only me who started using User Menu properly only after 3.0 update, not before?

I used it before too. What do you mean "properly"?

Ive not customized the options there 100% for my taste yet.

I've added all the options that I'm constantly using, moved them in an order that I used them most. Removed options that are not critical in time, removed sub menu items to make it overall super clean.
For example in clip menu:
- I removed first 4 sub menu items, so there is only Title Prefix and numer set left
In format Media:
- removed SD card submenu item (how often do you format SD card?)
In zebra:
- left only Zebra1 and Zebra2 levels
and so on.

Before shot User Menu is for me like a checklist now. I go from the bottom though:
- Cards formated? Check
- Clips named and reseted to 1? Check
etc.

Not just you. It was too horrible to contemplate editing a User Menu with that horrible sluggish navigation!!

The custom user menu is the only way to survive the pain in the ass Sony menu system.

Yes.. so true! I just did the update today... looking forward to re-customizing the menu.... but base setting was my first custom item... so crop mode is right where I think I'll leave it
