cromakey

Re: cromakey

I did some green screen footage with 24p. Worked out nice. Unless you want to slow-mo in post. That's another Pandora's Box ::)

Re: cromakey

Technically, I don't know if it's better to shoot interlaced or progressive for chroma key. I'm sure Barry can answer this one :P

Re: cromakey

You wouldn't think it would make a whole lot of difference. I think the color matrix and gamma settings would have more of an effect on this... or maybe I'm just nuts.

Re: cromakey

There are bazillions of frames of interlaced footage that have been chroma-keyed, so it's certainly do-able and possible. I believe it's easier to pull a better key from progressive footage, just because the footage itself is cleaner and more discrete, higher resolution, and with potentially less compression on it.

But you'll do far more for the quality of your keying by investing in proper lighting techniques and a good software keyer like Ultra, and in chroma-blur capability like Graeme's G-nicer or Vegas' chroma blur filter, than you will by choosing progressive or interlaced. Just choose whichever mode suits the feel of your project.

Re: cromakey

I've been getting good keys using 24pa then throwing it in AE and using magic bullets "deartifacting". If you do not have Magic Bullet, I've read that copying the footage into another layer and adding a Gaussian blur can help. I then throw it in my ultimatte demo and key the footage. It looks better than anything I've keyed yet. And this is with a poorly lit screen. Man, I'm gonna be so sad when Ultimatte expires :(
