hello everyone, i've been shooting video for about 9 months now and i thought i would post a clip of my first work.i wanted to go to school for film and directing but due to lack of money i had to setle on teaching myself. i worked long hrs. and saved up just enough to buy myself a dvx 100,final cut pro 5,and a mac.and read alot of books.so here you have it.please be as critical as you can i'm still learning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqGnkcBlP5E

The colors look pretty good, along with the editing. Neat piece of work, i felt the cuts were good for a trailer. Definitely better than what I can do i think...

that looked pretty damn good.

Some real nice camera moves.

hard to say more from a trailer with the quick cuts and all but it looks pretty polished.

Acting in the principle roles seemed good too.

Now ... you have to tell us stories about shooting guerilla style with all of those guns blazing out of a car.

Do you have production insurance? Did you have a permit? Did you notify the cops or the neighborhood? I'd love to know if you just went for it or went through the proper permits etc.

EDIT: oh .. and what city are you in?

Jack

thanks again to all of you guys for the encouragement.shooting guirilla style almost got me in trouble.the scene with guns flashing out the van was the one that almost did it. i was shooting the van going the wrong way of a one way and i didn't know it,and someone called the cops on us.we were just fortunate that when they showed up we had jusst put the guns away, becaause a few seconds earlier they probably would of had the swat team out on us.oh and i don't have any production ins. and i'm located in pittburgh pa home of the terrible towels.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqGnkcBlP5E

The camera work and editing are fantastic. The acting is very good as well. It's the subject matter I object to. I know, art is very subjective, but why oh why does every new filmmaker have to start off with guns, guns and more guns in their films? Most every clip I see in this site has either guns in it or people cutting off limbs spraying blood in the lense, etc...etc.... what is the need to spend so much time and talent on such a primitive and meaningless show of violence? I know it might be an age issue, young people have more anger than older folks and it might be some kind of release, but come on already.... with your talent, I bet you could direct your energy into a much more powerful concept film than simply "pulling out a gun" and shooting people on film.

Words have more power and force than any gun. Learn to use your fantastic talent and focus on story, charcs and depth, without using a gun to make your point.

Just one filmmakers opinion,... don't bit my head off!

But hey, again, it was very nice work in the clip..... film clip that is.

An equal amount of people with little or no experience shoot different kinds of guns...(er hem thatwhichwedonotspeakof)

Uhmmm

what trailer did you see.

I saw a world where people were trying to get away from that and that guns were clearly not the answer ...

In the clips I saw it seemed to be saying (among many other things), basically what you are saying in your post.

Again - from the clip I saw - criticising this film for having guns in it makes about as much sense as crtiticising you for typing "guns" in your response, or criticizing Schindler's List for having Nazis in it.

I think bible even made an appearance?

Also, unlike those of us who have never been chased by zombies, or mutants, or known superheros who throw death (see my signature) ... I sorta get the feeling the filmmaker here is making a movie about what he knows.

hello everyone im back.thank you jack for the detailed eye in seeing this movie for what it realy is,and thats redemtion and hope for other young unfortunate teens traped by there less then perfect enviroments. forgive me pimpdaddy if i didn't show enough care to the trailer to get that mesage across. the last thing i want to relay in my work is just another good shootem up film.this movie does not focus on the guns but the consequences of the guns.

maybe you need one or two lines of dialogue over the black screen at the end (where you will eventually have a bunch of credits and stuf) that have to do with the redemption aspect just to button it all and drive the point home.

Awsome trailer.

My only small crit would be that it seemed to lessen in inteisity towards the end, instead of building (as a trailer usually does).

But the action, cuts, look, sound, all were impressive.

It really isn't all that bad for a beginner. seriously. however many months you taught yourself, it must have been more of your talent for seeing film and just sheer wit of "getting" it.

good job.

one criticism. The movie seems to jump from tv documentary (video-ish)style to cinematic shots here and there, it's like you eventually gave up on some shots. but i know.. it's tough. just letting you know that's what I saw.

wow, very professional stuff
great photography and execution by the actors
liked the WHOLE trailer
looks very very clean for youtube, can I ask your xport settings as far as size, stream or dwnload, 256 or 512 kbps etc.
congrats man, you're on your way.

thanks again everyone for the critiques and feedback.someone asked what mic i used,it was an me66.is there anyone here living in the pittsburgh area?

Damn impressive ennfurno.

Where did you pick up actors? Was that DVX100 you shot on? Did you record audio directly to camera or did you use a mixer and sound recording gear? What type of microphone did you use, and how many? What, if any, lighting rigs did you use?

Jack that was beautifully said, I think that was bogus for a member of DVX with pimpdaddy for a avatar to comment on. What those that say about all the members that are women on this board.
