Critical Settings for Stage Performance

I'll be filming a stage performance where the musical artist will be under bright stage lights. What settings are important for this?

I expect to set my zebras on 80% (or 100%?) with manual iris. Anything else important to adjust for this setting? What about scene files that might work best?

Thanks.

You may have to go and set up your camera early and do a few tests and play around with the scene file settings to get the result you want. I am sure they will be doing sound checks or maybe even rehearsing before the start of the show.

This might be lame or cheating but because of not knowing what the lighting person might be doing for the show - if you aren't that close to the production of it - I usually leave the White Balance on AUTO and maybe even the Iris. That way you have smoother changes from dark to light scenes. Almost like a run-n-gun situation. White Balance seems to be the big issue for stage lights, i never know what to set it to and colors seem to shift too much because of the different color gels they use. So I just leave it on Auto.

Just make sure you get good audio, unless you are sync it with recording from the board or prerecorded something, like the actual album recording - aka. music video.

good luck
