Hello Everyone-
I've been a lurker on this board for awhile and this is my first post.
Thanks for having me! Hope to provide whatever expertise I can and learn all I can.
That said,
I am currently production head at a public access station and want to move to working on more exciting stuff, basically I am amping up (AKA spending moola on) my gear to put together a marketable turnkey rig.

I am planning on investing in a HVX200a/firestore/letus 35mm rig. It looks like the best rig for my budget, which is about $10,000.

I am writing a business plan and am wondering if anyone can give me a day rate for comparable setups in the north east/boston area.

My current day rate is $500, using the SD field equipment at my small access station. But I am not sure what to quote for this setup? anyone have any insights?

Thanks everyone
Matt

Unless you have access to a range of professional model cameras, you will unlikely do much broadcast work with your own personal equipment. Many shows provide their own through rental houses, almost always eliminating owner-operator packages. Currently, the ones I'm most often operating are: Sony Z7U, Sony F900r, Sony XDCam 350/355, Panasonic HDX900, Panasonic VariCam, Panasonic HVX200.

Day rates, less equipment, range from $500 - $800 for reality / documentary operators on 10 hour days. News is less - about $350 - $500 / day. Single-camera narrative is almost all IA600 work and varies by contract.

There are per-diems, 1/2 - full day travel days and fuel reimbursements on non-union shows and fringes plus on IA shows.

This is all mid-Atlantic (D.C.) and South through Texas.

True a lot of broadcast gigs are rigged via rental houses - I am targeting "three screen" (TV, web moblie) content production, Music videos, corporate, commercial, and Motion Graphics. I have a lot of educational content and music shoots as of late. Anyway... thanks for the nudge. I forgot about per-diem stuff, although this is for a business plan, so right now it's just metrics.

thanks
