FEATURE: Creed

The trailer is okay, but mainly the hot chicks made it worthwhile. I get no sense of danger here, dude and his crew look easy to take down by any of the basic thugs that use to live around my old apartment. In fact I think I could take the cult leader down with a few solid kicks to the jaw, knee and face. He's not scary. His girls aren't scary.

There should be some running, some panic. Show the victims in terror. If these were real vampires it would be somewhat different, but I get the idea these are just regular people who are freak jobs. Nothing scary here. Show them hunting and their prey trying to avoid them. Do they simply grab and bash or do they inject something to paralyze their victim. Show us something scary.

And I want to see a news article about the "true story" this was inspired by please. I'm seeing a lot of things being "inspired" by real life events. Paranormal Activity was inspired by a real life event that basically seems to boil down to a rat being lose in the house (a cup or something fell from a shelf, scary). I heard other things were happening but there was no real elaboration. A cup falling alone, means nothing.

i liked the way it was shot, in fact i liked everything i saw pretty much.

The one thing i am leary of is, wow you have like a millino characters. From a writer/film maker perspective, it seems like your story could be REALLY complicated to have this many characters. I know from experience the more complicated the more time you need to really tell it well, so just depends, is this a short? A feature?

I do agree that it just seems like vampires that are basically interchangable with goth/punk kids. IE: You show them looking trendy/hip, you show them acting kinda emo, but no sense of danger or fright is ever introduced. (again this may be in spades in your actual film, just commenting on the trailer)

would love to see more as you get it done.

Thanks Jon...I do try to keep certain things out of the trailer...perhaps I worry too much about giving too much away but when it's released I'm sure there will be much more out there...just trying to satisfy the call for more of this film...each teaser has moved quicker so I'm just trying to ride the wave a little more...but I do appreciate your comments...

Thanks again,

It's hard when you're not dealing with real vamps in the story. I need to know why I should be scared. What stops me from going upside this guys head with the same three whole puncher I just finished using on my script or any other common household item. So one chick has a knife, does she throw it. What stops me from simply running? Most of the squad are women (no offense but they haven't do anything "tough" nor has the either of the guys). While most of the prey are women, a good final girl can get a way from this crew with a well placed kick to the groin, a little mace and a stun gun.

I got your point the first time Nathyn...no tough guys...I don't want tough guys or monsters...I find most serial killers are not monstrous looking...that's the approach...the columbine kids could have had their asses kicked and so could have the Ted Bundy's and the Hood Masacre guy...all the bullies in your neighborhood would have kicked their asses too...

It's just my approach to stay truer to who they were but I appreciate that it is not working for you...

I'm not trying to be an ass, and I see you're trying to stay away from the gimmicks, but I'm just putting it out there. In fact your average horror trailer isn't scary, but some make you want to see the film more than others. Even dude from silence of the lambs was scary.

Bundy was scary, he was a clown LOL, and the Columbine kids had guns. And no, no one is scary before they start killing people. I just want to have an idea about what's done. Do they sneak up on people, that's scary. Do they choke people, gang up, what? You don't need tough guys or monsters, just give me a reason to be scared. I thought, "Maybe the chicks seduce people or get guys sucked in and the guys jump them," but then I noticed the targets are mostly women.

I dug it. It shows a lot of potential. For some reason the trailer felt a touch long to me, perhaps it was the pacing, I really can't say.

One thing that kind of stood out was the (IMO) overuse of the title cards, especially for the character names. It felt kind of like the opening credits of a tv show.

For example, you have a title card stating "The Party" yet we can tell it's a party (or a concert); we see a gathering of people who are dancing, singing and seem to be having a good time.

That being said, it kept my attention, you have a good idea for the story and a great looking cast; which is a working formula for a successful film.

Thanks jkc...I am not the best at putting trailers together...theres so many different approaches also...there have been 3 teasers prior to this so this one was to intro the players as well...I wasnt sure if the style of music slowed it somewhat also...it is more thinking music than threatening...I liked it when I first heard it...some love it andthe trailer...obviously some do not... but I don't know of any horror film...or any film for that matter that doesnt have its critics...as long as we're talking about it I guess...

Thanks for the imput...some very good points...

Cheers,

I was lucky enough to help out on this movie a bit. Knowing how strong the acting is and how vicious and bloody some of it is, I was frustrated to not see more of that in this early trailer and make it 'scarier'. But that's just my first instinct based on other 'scary' movies.

Knowing the story and Stan's great concept with it, I can understand him having to search for the best way to present it and how much to give away and/or hold back. It's a different kind of movie and works on lots of different levels - the scares and gore will be there for those who want that; the story and the acting is there for those who appreciate that aspect, and for the indie filmmakers out there, there is a lot of creative filmmaking going on in this thing! Stan operates with nearly NO budget at all, and yet finds ways to push the limits creatively and of course remains true to his dedication to story first.

There are a lot of characters and they are all given their backstory and motives in this movie. It is based on reality which is what will make it scary when people are watching it and hopefully consider it afterwards. And of course it helps that every role is played by good looking guys and girls who are seriously strong actors!

A tough looking guy acting tough is not nearly as scary as a normal looking guy or good looking girl that has bad intentions floating around in their skull. Add the mob mentality and the desperate need for these kids to belong - even to the twisted ideas that created the real story this is based on - and you have a really scary, and for me, brilliant idea for a movie.

I think it's great we get to see these early glimpses as Stan finds his way to present the movie - this is one we'll be looking back on saying "wow - it all started with this"!

So much more to come from Stan and the movie CREED!

I actually agree here. I just would like to see it in the trailer. But again he should promote it the way he sees best, as it is his film.

Thanks Nate! I think it's gonna be really cool to watch the evolution of this movie... and like my own movies, I know Stan will end up having lots of versions of his trailers.

Shooting around Hollywood...sometimes light is a challenge...flashing neon outside on the boulevard and inside the bar just one socket for one light....
