Creating this look with a DVX100a

Ummm... looks like video to me. I guess I don't see what it is you're attracted to.

Soft whites? take the gamma down a bit, bring your white level down a notch or two. Really soft whites? duplicate the layer, add a blur, paste it right behind the original layer, bring down opacity to your liking. Or add a diffusion from magic bullet or something.

YOu think it looks like Video? I think it kinda has a 16mm feel. Maybe it's just very mid toney? The stuff after the cemetary sequence has that soft feel to me, kinda like a Gus Van Sant movie.

soft whites? why do you want your panny to do it for you? try sony. it has the video look that you wanted. :)

Well it's too late. I already own a DVX100a, but I really like the look of that. Kind of like everything washed out? Maybe it's superUNsaturated? I'm not sure.

OK...this CAN be done all in post.
First - much of this looks like it was shot on totally overcast days - so the natural environment would tend to look like this anyway.
Yes, the whites are pretty gray - this can all be done by adjusting your levels and saturation in Premier Pro or Final Cut Pro or Avid. (Many others too, I'm sure).
Start by bringing the white levels down so the whites have your gray look, then adjust your blacks and mids until you find a look you like. Also play with the saturation, slight blurs, gamma curves, etc. PLAY WITH IT!
This WILL take some time. But you will probably come across many different interesting looks as you experiment.
