Creaky hand strap "door" noise

Hello all,

My HVX200A camera is having an issue where the strap mount on the camera "door" is creaking and getting worse (louder) with every shoot. I shoot predominantly long-format events (i.e., weddings) and the creaking is getting picked up by the internal and external (Rode NG-2) shotgun mic.

Anyone else have this problem? The on camera rig is fairly simple with an LED LitePanel, the Rode mic and the stock Leica lens (occasional Schnieder wide-angle) so nothing really tasking the body with extra weight. Storage is to an FS100 250GB clipped to my belt, pocket, etc.

The camera has less than 50 hours on it total but was purchased new in 2009.

The strap is fairly tight around my hand with little to no play. The camera is not abused, dropped, rough-handled, etc. I'm the only operator to ever use the camera.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

-Damien

Had the same issue Damien.
Turned out to be my right elbow and not the camera at all.
Little WD-40,----good as new!

Sherman,

Ha. Funny. Glucosamine w/chondroitin should help that out.

Seriously, this isn't an isolated issue (the creaky door/strap), is it?

Just checked my HPX 170.
No creaking.
But when I put my ear up real close I could hear a small voice saying, "feed me P2 cards."
Faint whisper with an expensive lisp.
Might want to give nearest Panasonic service centre a call to see if there's a recall?

the OP has a 200a it has a tape door. the 170 does not. so its not an apples2apples comparison.

ive never heard of this problem before. is it the strap or the door itself.
kind of a ghetto fix, but if its the door. you could try to gaffertape the door shut...?

Wonder if the take up reel on the inside is the culprit?
And yes, there is a tape door on my HPX170, if we are understanding tape door in the same way.

if your 170 has a tape door it not a 170 lol. The 170 can't record on tape. do you maybe have a 200, that's the one that shoots on both p2 and tape. I'm guessing the op has a loose latch on the tape door. The hinge is on the bottom so the whole cameras weight is on a few tiny latches if it's used as a hand held. I mostly use a trypod, but if you use it as a handheld those latches could have bent a little loose. Now when you move ur hand the door wiggles. I like the gaffer tap idea.

OK, misunderstanding on my part.
Thought we were talking about that little strip of tape on the part of the LCD display nearest the camera body.
No, there's no video tape drive in the HPX 170.

Guys,

I use an FS-100 for storage or P2 media. No tape. The door has been opened only twice, maybe. The drive itself has never been used. This is only external noise when I move my hand to reposition or move the camera.
Here's a pic with a clear pointer:

that little strip of tape on the part of the LCD display nearest the camera body.
what in the heck are you talking about? theres no little strip of tape on my 170?!?!?!?
are you referring to that 5 year waranty thing (that for some reason many people dont remove)?

Here's a pic with a clear pointer:
yeah, i knew what you were talking about. are you sure its the door and not the strap?
if its the door something may need to be tightened or a hinge replaced.

again. gaffer taping it closed might be a short term fix. but u might want to take in in and have it looked at. ive never heard of this before...

at the top of the dv casette door, there is a little space where i have put a thin stripe foam. then the door is closing much more tighter.
sorry for my bad english.
