Crazy to purchase GH1 right now?

I second buying from Amazon Warehouse, I got mine for $1062 incl. free three day shipping, it was supposed to be open box but it seriously looked never opened, I'm thinking a return that got filed incorrectly, I picked up a Switronix DSLR shoulder mount on Ebay for $126 and now looking for a 2nd. generation Videomic CHEAP! any thoughts on ND filters cause I'm shooting in L.A. this Summer and it going to be Hot, Humid and Bright!

Yeah, got one of the open boxes. It was a risk, but it's paid off. No vids yet. Hopefully next week. Taking it to Shanghai in a week, so I have to really practice before then. I love the 20mm 1.7 pancake. But after a few random tests, I can see where the utility of the 14-140 would come in and I kind of regret selling it. I can always, of course, buy it again later.

Get some step-up/down rings and try these:

I have no affiliation with this seller but I bought 3 of these filters (i don't know how they are selling them for this price) - they are excellent and you can stack them, and I'm pretty picky about filters!

I’m still semi on-the-fence on the GH1. Was debating on it or the Canon Rebel T2i or possibly a Canon 7D -- mostly for the PC sync connection on the 7D than the build or other extras, but I dug out my old hotshoe to PC adapter and decided that was a non-issue. I shoot stills and video and the T2i’s 18mp stills vs. the Gh1’s 12mp stills had me leaning toward the T2i.

I went to a store and played with a Rebel T1i (no T2i’s in stock) and I didn’t like the way it worked in live view mode and was immediately reminded of why I stopped using DSLRs for stills, too. I don’t like optical viewfinders. They slow me down creatively. With a LCD viewfinder you can handhold the camera more securely plus you can see the affects of your settings live as opposed to shooting, post-viewing, adjusting, shooting, post-viewing, adjusting... LCD viewfinders are a MUCH faster workflow for creative images for the way I work.

Read that the T2i’s AF in live view and video is almost non-existent and that killed it for me. Yeah, I know, pros aren’t supposed to use AF or auto-anything. Well, I do from time to time and like having that capability vs. not. I have 2-1/2 HDV cameras and a couple of still cameras but like the idea of having still/video capabilities with me without having to lug everything I own around with me.

Originally, when they first were announced, I was going to get a GH1 for video/stills and G1 as a stills backup. When they became almost impossible to get and I found out that U.S. buyers can’t buy a RED one (not with a Panasonic U.S. warranty at least) I put it on hold. I still want a red one, been using black cameras for a long long time. I liked having the choice and was ticked that it was taken away. Read about a guy buying a red one off eBay, finding out it was defective, and having to ship it to Canada for warranty service — took a while to get it back. :-(

The advice here, and from a GH1 loving friend, are pretty convincing to get the GH1 now and learn/use the heck out of it in the interim. When the GH2 arrives (assuming there’s not a limited availability like the GH1 — announced in September(?) and it will be available...?) buy it and use the GH1 as my backup still/video camera. Or, sell it and get a 2nd GH2 if I like the changes — remembering changes aren’t always good, sometimes they’re a cost cutting step back, too. If I can find a red GH1 with a U.S. warranty (yes, I know, $100 more for a Mack or other aftermarket warranty) it would push me off the fence. Luckily, my name isn’t Humpty Dumpty.

As for ND, I will probably get one of the fader ND filters from eBay.

A little off topic but I remember my Panasonic GS-400 back in the day and I believed like many that the line would only get better, history shows how the line devolved and thats why I went with the GH-1, I don't have any firm facts that the GH-2 or whatever it's called being better for my needs-a quasi docu-drama about a homeless heroin addict trying to get through withdrawls on the mean streets of L.A.-anyway I couldn't wait for it and I'm very happy(so far) with the GH-1! Thanks for the ND info.....

What adapter do I need to buy to put on some FD lenses or Nikon lenses? any links? I will be purchasing my GH1 tomorrow from B&H
