crazy little story...fish on?

so i work in a fly fishing shop and today i was talking to one of the other guides and i just randomly asked him if he had ever had a bird try to hit a fly while he was fishing it...he said that last year he had a sparrow hit one and get hooked - he had to cut the leader because he couldn't get close enough to it to let it go...

later on today i went to Crooked River to fish after work and i stayed and fished until dark...at dusk tons of bats came out and were buzzing the river for insects...i was fishing with a dry fly and one of the bats came down and hit the fly, hooking itself in the process!! so its all flapping around on my line, i'm thinking "oh sheet!" and trying to play in this bat so i can ?help it? (how the hell would i get a hook out of a freaking out bat??)

as i got it to the side of the river it somehow freed itself and crawled onto the bank to recover (i hope)...the fish were rising like crazy and even tho i felt super bad about it i took a couple more casts at them (the fish)...no fish hit it but another bat took a swipe at it! after that i reeled in and went home, but damn....same day i was talking about it - crazy

although, i could be the pioneer of a new sport....bat-fly fishing...

can you get a patent on a sport??:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

haha funny stuff. I went fishing as a kid on the banks of a friend's house in chicago. I had a snag on some nasty weeds, lost my bait, so I re-baited?(I think I just made that word up) and drew back to cast it. My sister had just walked up behind me to tell me dinner was ready and I snagged her hair. I didn't even know she was there until I tried to launch it. Needless to say, you probably heard less screeching from that bat than I heard from my sister.

i'm bout to get a new 5wt - either a Winston BIIx or a Scott G2 or E2....then comes the 3wt - probably a Sage

Ive got a 6wt G Loomis that is my everyday rod. I'm hoping to pick up a
9wt St Croix this summer. I still havent replaced my gear that got trashed
by hurricane wilma.

is there freshwater trout fishing???

Nope. Its all saltwater with a touch of freshwater bass and panfish.

Bonefish are the ultimate though... those runs are unbelievable.

the guides service i work for is partnered with El Pescador Lodge in Belize where they run trips for saltwaterfishing...bonefish on 5-6wts

ever fish steelhead? or bats?:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I snagged a bat once :)

My crazy catches have been a 3 foot gator on a big bass popper and a
3" reef squid that I thought was a weed I'd picked up.
