Crash

Does anyone know if that Persian guy is the same guy from the Malcom in the middle show? lol..I know the girl isn't even Persian, good actress...but again, Persian is a easy language to learn.

not all films try to be or should be subtle. this film had characters going at each other's throats for 120 minutes. As a result, the in-your-face music, drama, camera movement, worked. If this was about the problems an interracial couple faces, then maybe a subtle touch would've been more appropriate. The freaking movie's titled "Crash" for Christ's sake.

I was pleasantly surprised by it. I really enjoyed the ensemble cast, the cinematography was creative and inspired, nice direction I thought, and I liked the script. I didn't find its not so subtleness offensive or even detracting from the high value of the movie. It is SUPPOSED to be in your face. I liked the ballsiness of it. I certainly liked it a hell of a lot more than Boreback Mtn. Please if a movie about two men kind of having a realtionship over the course of the years can be called "groundbreaking" in 2006, that's really freaking sad. Talk about an ok movie being over hyped.

I found the movie to be disrespectful to both Asians and to the old Persian man.
I am also tired of white people always be the most racist and richest people in these types of films.
Likewise, some of the silliest dialog/acting ever....if this movie is the Best Film by the Oscar people, this is obviously a shitty year.
Don Cheadle is a great actor but his racial arguements with his spanish girlfriend was extremely over-the-top and silly.

And how everything tied together was completly ridiculous. Could have been called Trash not Crash.

I hate when moral messages is spelled out in large letters leaving no room to think...

That's just it...I thought it left a lot of room to think. I am white. Almost every one of my friends is black. When dealing with issues of race, as a white person, my automatic thought path goes down the road of black and white. I never gave a moment's pause to other races (non-white) and the issues they deal with between themselves. I'm not even going to look for a soapbox here, but I thought the movie was excellent and thought-provoking....for me. I passed the movie around to my friends and we talked about it for a long time afterwards.

I'm glad it won.

Crash was a movie that took a risk. The film doesn't rely on special effects or huge explosions to drive it. Instead, it's dialogue is quick and direct and edgy. I thought it was easily one of the best films of the year for the art that it is. I'm no liberal, however I think that Paul Haggis took on a very real topic that we deal with on a daily basis. I find it more of a stretch that Haggis used to write for Walker Texas Ranger. Big step up with back to back movie of year oscars. Yes he wrote Milliion Dollar Baby. Give me more movies like this..willing to take a risk instead of mainstream.

it main stream but with indie roots. I enjoy this movie becuase it visuals and story playing well with one another. i just watched it again.

Completely agree with you.

JTyner is hispanic and I'm white... and we have had a lot of discussions over the years about race and my perceptions vs. his. I found Crash to be thought-provoking and dialogue encouraging... and several scenes were flat-out moving. It touched on subtle prejudices to blatent racism... and that is what is around all of us every day. Just about EVERYONE has some type of prejudice in them.

I totally agree. This movie still isn't very good, and the Oscars's are just one big ass kisser convention. I'm appalled Hollywood chose best movie for a film that says people get sexually aroused and become voyeurs watching car crashes. That was some kick ass FX making James Spader's look . . .not white. Sure beats the FX on Episode 3.

Oops, wait, wrong Crash. :costumed-smiley-047

Very good, but... not great, IMO, of course.

There were some things that were missing, I'm not quite sure yet what they are.

I've watched this two times now and both times something was missing.

... It might sound brutal, but... not enough people died :)... I mean, in a real ethnic\racist conflict drama... it's gonna get bloody as hell... the bittersweet ending was just not... bitter enough, I don't know...

The same with Babel... I mean, these kinda stories are hell in real life... there cannot be such a happy ending in a drama about ethnic\racist conflict...

Being from the Balkans... with Kosovo and ex-Yugoslavia still smoldering right next door... and centuries of such "experience" ... wasn't real enough for me, sorry...

And the scene with the Chinaman getting run over?!

I mean, how can you direct a person-getting-run-over scene in a funny way... in a ethnic-clash-drama? For me, that was pure racism...

Still, pretty good. The scene with the little girl and her invisible cloak really got me. Also the one with the burning car.

But, in overall, not as good as Traffic, for example, which is flawless.

My 2c.
