Crash

As usual I'm too spent to read the whole thread....BUT, did you realy compare the structure to Traffic!?!

Yikes. Pass me a vicodon.

As mentioned in another post...

'My only dissapointment for the night was Crash taking best script. Who would have thought an over indulgent script based on stereotypes we've all seen a million times would win best screenplay?

However, I do think best film was in order. There's a huge difference. This was an important piece of cinema edited brilliantly and directed with a subtle hand I can only dream to grasp someday, but nothing new for the screenwriting world. In fact it was a step backwards from several poignant scripts that have been written time over time again. IMHO, of course.'

I thought the point of crash was that it presented stereotypes and then looked beyond the surface of the initial stereotype to show another side - if anything I thought the message of the film was precisely the opposite of that proposal - "don't stereotype, look beyond. "

We rented Crash through Netflix. I had to have my spouse remind me three times what the movie was about. Once I was reminded (the third time), I did remember the movie. That being said, I found the movie to be boring and the storyline to be a typical white people abusing ever other race and then at the end being ashamed of their behavior. I, for one, am tired of this storyline. I remind you this is just my opinion and I am certainly not putting down anyone else for a different viewpoint.

Have a great day.

My problem with the movie was the use of extremes to get the point across. In going at is this way, I felt most of the characters rang false for me, coming across more like cardboard cut-outs than actual people. There were some characters that did seem to have some truth to them (Matt Dillon, Don Cheadle, Thandie Newton), but there was never enough of an emotional connection developed for me to care what they did.

All in all, I applaud the attempt, but the execution felt far too heavy handed to me.

yeah, if Crash was the best picture of the year, I'd say it was an off year. The film is good, but it is so flawed.
That's kind of how I felt when American Beauty won.

felt it was a bit contrived, I mean racism has been done a million times, but it's only different because hollywood made a big deal of it. Not to say it was bad, it's just there so behind with everything yet they keep saying how 'brave' they are for making controversial films. Well, controversial in mainstream terms.

Glad i'm not the only one who was dissappointed last night.

You're not alone. It was a lame Oscars. Boring, boring, boring. The only eyebrow raising moments in the whole evening was when Three 6 Mafia got their oscar for best song, and when Crash upset to win best picture.

It's been a very odd year for movies.

I think it was real interesting that last night they kept beating us over the head with "Go see movies in theaters!", "DVD's aren't as good". And yet, most of the academy makes their choices based upon DVD screeners sent to them by the studios.

Yeah, Mojo, it was getting old after awhile.

Its funny because really I don't think Crash winning was that big of an upset. Everyone's just looking for some fireworks to talk about after the fact. I wasn't surprised Crash won. I was pretty glad it did.

The highlight of the Oscars for me was Stewarts "voting for someone who will actually win" remark. Smooth. LOL.

The only upset for me was that awful song winning an Oscar, but what can you do? Titanic beat the more deserving LA Confidential. Pacino won for Scent of a Woman of all things.

Life isn't fair. Neither are the Oscars.

And don't forget that Paul Newman won for The Color of Money  instead of the much better performance in The Verdict :( or even that great character he created in Cool Hand Luke :( which also happens to be one of the best movies of all time.
