SHORT: CRAFT - The Beeswax Company (Shot on FS5)

Stephen Mick

Totally Usable
Thought I'd share a piece we created for some friends of ours who run a cool little business in Dripping Springs, Texas. The Beeswax Company makes hand-crafted beeswax candles. The owners share the work, with Mike keeping bees and Christine and her team handling the candle-making.

This was shot on the FS5, using the Odyssey 7Q+ to record 2K ProRes from the RAW FS5 output. Recorded in S-Log2, edited in FCPX, and graded with Color Finale Pro and FilmConvert.

Lenses:
- Canon 16-35mm f4L iS
- Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS II
- Canon 100mm f2.8L IS Macro

Good job! I think it told their story well. Nice shots. I especially liked a number of those close tight shots on the bees. I imagine they are quite happy with the finished product

I echo the praise of the others...well done. For the sake of constructive criticism:

1) her skin tone is kinda weird in the first shot of her; seems to be a mix of daylight and something warmer in the room.
2) I always hope there's something funny or surprising in these ad pieces. The narration is totally adequate, but also boilerplate adspeak. I've done similar pieces (not as good as yours) and watching several years later my thought is always, "My goodness this is all so cliché." In the future I would hope to find at least some element of "that's funny" or "I didn't know that."
