FS7: cracked housing XQD card

One of my XQD cards for the Sony FS7 has had the plastic cover cracked.
Does anyone know if this is fixable , exchangeable, or if I should even be concerned about it. IT still functions fine.

This is a question i would have sent to Juan Martinez or Mel Medina in the old days but i don’t know who to contact over at Sony support anymore.
Anyone even know who to ask?
(yeah I know my nails are cracked even worse.)

I'd say the bigger question is whether you're willing to trust paid work to record to structurally compromised media?

Personally, it's not a chance I'm willing to take. But your mileage may vary.

I've had 4 cards chip in different places. All still work 100%. 1 card chipped inside the slot A and damaged the spring. Had to get the entire card slots replaced. Wasn't cheap. Just be careful and monitor cards that pieces don't fall inside card slots.

I have some that are over three years old and I've never seen that happen, but I'm using mine inside SxS adapters.

I had that happen to one of mine three weeks ago. It's done four years service, so probably looking to retire.

I had similar things happen to 3 lexar cards - within a year of it happening, 2 of them corrupted.
Can't 100% for certain it is because of the crack... But now I replace a card when happens (and am a little more careful removing cards nowadays!)

Iam all for cards getting cheaper.. but really if they start literally falling a part over 3 years .. WTF.. you have to roll the dice that they will still work for shoots that pay your mortgage ..that your professional reputation rides on.. !!.. Im glad Im on SxS... its all becoming throw away.. along with the operators carreer..

My guess is the card cracked after being dropped. That's happened more than a few times. So unlike my nails which actually grow that way I suspect its not a manufacturing defect but due to my own carelessness. It's probably fine but My gut feeling is the same as Grugs above. If anything happens do I want to risk a job on it ? I think I'll try to see if I can repair it with "Sugru" though just for fun.

I've had 2 chip in the last few months, and a colleague had the same thing happen around the same time. I believe none of my cards were dropped, and they do indeed work, but they worry me, and it irritates me that the cards should be so undurable.

Hmm ... Well if its that common , maybe we should compile a list of how many have chipped from our members. If so, Sony should simply be replacing them or maybe there is a way to recover them. You are right though, they are not supposed to self destruct before they've been used the amount they are supposed to last for.
