CPM Follow Focus and new Quick Gears

We have had a lot of interest in our new follow focus and especially the quick gears and Darren had a few questions so I figured I would put up a thread;

The follow focus is a fairly basic follow focus unit. Some might remember the proto type we had developed that was both geared and belted. In the end we were not happy with price that the unit would cost to produce. We needed something that fit the price structure of our rigs and other gear and the belted unit was simply to expesive. Hence this unit. It is all metal constuction, since we are injection molders we do not actually produce these in house, but they are assembled in house with our shafts and gears. The nicest feature about the unit is the gear box is able to be serviced. Specific points on the unit; $249.99

1) Its not a sealed gear box and can be serviced (carries the same lifetime warantee as all our other gear does)
2) Standard .8 pitch works with anyones lens gears
3) Standard accessory port
4) Adjustable marker point
5) Can be ordered either free spinning or slightly dampened. We are also happy to re-adjust customers units to either setting. So if you not happy with the free spinning its a simple modification to change it.
6) Full roller bearing internals
7) Brass gears
8) Comes with your choice of either 7 or 8" quick gear. (Currently cutting 9 and 10" quick gear tooling)

The quick gear is our answer to a low cost lens gearing solution. Standard .8 pitch gear strip that is as easy to put on a lens as a wire tie, because it's designed exactly like a wire tie. They feature a low profile fastening design and a silicon inside strip to aid in grip. starting at $13.00

thanks for the great info Steve! I had asked 2 questions which haven't been address as yet.

Hows the backlash on the unit...and can the height be adjusted?

Darren

Sorry about that. The unit is not height adjustable. Backlash is pretty good, little more then 1mm (.045 - .050 I would say), but stays consistent and does not seem to 'fall out of adjustment'.

Thanks,

Steve
