CP.2 too heavy for Sony A7s?

Hello! I'm planning a shoot using my new A7s. I would like to rent CP.2 lenses, but I'm worried at 2 lbs. they will be too heavy for the mount and tiny body. Should I figure out a way to support the lens via the rod system? Or am I worrying too much. Will be glad to know your opinions.

No, it would not on the a7s which has an all metal lens-mounting assembly. If you read the post you linked to you can see that the 7s is not on the list.

There comes a point when the lens is heavier than the camera, then it makes sense to use the lens as the part attached to the sticks or at least sharing the stress with the camera.

The simplest way to do this is to mount the QR to the foot on the lens instead of the camera. Just like you do for stills with long lenses

I often use 70-200 f2.8 Canon L and metabones adapter on the A7s and FS700. it is heavy and I always use a support under the lens and metabones for that. The f4 is a bit lighter, but it would still be a good idea to support the lens.

I am working on a nice compact reasonable priced system for the A7s, that it is easy to balance and support a big lens or a small one by sliding the QR back and forth. I have posted about it here earlier.

Photos show a 70-210 f4 old canon lens supported even without a foot.

The shoulder brace comes off quickly and the external battery is optional, I can use AB/IDX bricks or just L battery (same as the FS700) plates. I think the Sony L's will be popular.

There will be options for 15mm rails as well, many of the parts will be the same as my FS700 kit.

Olof: did you cut that cushioned eyepiece in half and glue it onto the Sony one? Looks comfortable. Which model is it? Thanks!

It is Blue Star Round Extra Small Microfiber Eyecushion (Red) it costs about $8.00. And yes I cut about a third off the bottom and glued it on with commercial contact adhesive I use on model airplanes and various camera parts called Welders Cement, it is very strong.

I wear glasses so I use these Shammy or Microfiber eye pieces on all my cameras, The Blue Star one fit the A7s perfectly. It works great w/o glasses as well and yes they are comfortable and block light.

The cement is way more expensive then the eye piece, but I stock it, and a tube goes a long way. You could try other adhesives but the Welders really is great very strong and clear in color, if used with care, it is invisible. You lightly coat both parts where they touch each other, and let them sit for 10-20 minutes. Then put them together exactly in the right place, you only get one chance, because the bond is instant and permanent, if you are not good at this practice on scrap pieces first. If you are neat it does a beautiful job. If you make a mess, well...
