Greetings all!

It's been a while since I've posted, but this forum was a complete addiction to me when the HVX was about to come out and just starting to come out. I spent countless hours on here looking at footage and trying to figure out what I wanted to get.

Well, I pulled the trigger, got an HVX along with the great RedRock M2 adpater about a year ago. I then went out and directed a feature film with it. The result is "Coyote." We just finished post on the film and it's starting to hit festivals. We just got back from the Bear Lake Film Festival where it won the Grand Jury Award for Best Feature!

We are screening again one week from now in San Diego at the San Diego Film Festival on Sept 29th and 30th. Check out our movie page on their site and get tickets to the screenings if you want to check it out. Here's the link:

The Saturday screening is already SOLD OUT and the Sunday screening is going fast. So if you want to check it out, you'll have to act soon.

You probably want to see some footage. We don't have a trailer, but we do have the first 3 minutes of the film and a scene from the movie posted on our official site. You can check out everything about the film at:

www.themexicandream.com

We've started a blog on the site too. There is a post in the blog section all about our HVX workflow, which was fantastic. We have loved the process and couldn't be happier with the film.

Many thanks to all on this forum who's comments and advice have helped us out immensely. Hopefully I can now share some of my experiences with you and return the favor. I'll be keeping the blog on our site updated. Also, I'll try to check in and reply to posts here on DVXuser.

Again, thanks for all the help guys! Check out the clips and let me know what you think!

**** man, that was some good stuff. Tell me about your lighting and post work.

Keep up the good work. This **** should win alot of festival awards (IMO way better then Clerks, and El Mariachi) And I'm a BIG fan of El Mariachi

hi brian that looked great. very clean audio and video. was this also your first feature? had you done any shorts?

The trailer looks great. Left me wanting to see the whole thing (exactly what a trailer is supposed to do!!)

Nice blog on the site as well. As an HVX owner I was thrilled reading about your workflow etc.

You all did a great job!!!

Thanks guys!

Crew was really small. Basically on set we had these crew people

DP
1st AC
Sound Mixer/Boom Op
Art (costume/prop/etc)

I was the director and also actor

We had a 4 other Production people that were trying to make sure the next days ahead were all set. Often times we would have 1 or 2 of those people on set to help out

It was a small deal.

Audio wise, we used a SoundDevices 302 3-channel mixer. We would mix 2 wireless lavs to one channel, and a boom to the other. The two channels were then run directly into the camera.

Great job Brian. You're an inspiration to us all. I really mean that.

I'm several months behind you, but following in your footsteps nonetheless.

Keep up the awesome work.

Kyle

Man.. that's a great piece. Nice style.. good set-up and overall great production quality. Congrats on that indeed.

Also liked the look of your website too. I"m about to embark on my first website.. I know I"m like 10 years too late. What program did you design that in? Take a while or pretty straightforward..

Good luck on the festival circuit.. was this yoru first feature?

We shot for a month down in AZ and Mexico last August (a year ago). Then we had some pickup/reshoots/additional scenes near the beginning of this year. All spread out, but probably 2 weeks worth.

Having the ability to own the equipment (camera/audio we owned. Rented Lighting and grip) really helped out. We would get the edit together. Tweak. Cut scenes, shoot additional scenes, etc. Until we got what we were happy with.

The best thing that we ever did with this film was to be honest about what didn't work and what could make it work. That perspective took some time as we thought the first cut was fine. Then with time we saw what it could be. It was quite a ride. I'm glad we took the extra time.

As far as the website, I did not design it. It was all Brett Spackman (my co-writer/editor/producer). He worked professionally as a web developer so what he was doing was a bit over my head.

That's exactly what would happen if an American tried to live illegally in Mexico. Looks great guys your sound mix is excellent also. Controversy always sells tickets and the theme is a very relevant one. I'm sure this film will circulate for awhile. Good luck!

100% of our shots were done using the M2. I think we originally had a one shot that did not have the adapter on it, but it didn't make it into the cut. We were all M2 all the time.

Did your AC really hold the focus LCD in one hand and the cam in the other??? Can't imagine that.

Dude,

EXCELLENT WORK! I loved the color, I loved the framing, I loved the use of the M2.
I wish you the best (and you'll get it) with this film.
