Copy that - for my sake can you confirm that there's no great adapter for getting EF lenses to do AF on Sony e-mount bodies well? Seems like AF performance suffers a lot with that adapting from what I've read
I don't think any great ones exist. I haven't checked in a year or so, but there was nothing usable when I was looking. (Native E-mount AF is so good that I doubt there ever will be anything as good as that.)
You'd think it would be as easy as a simple EF to RF transition.
Yeah I have no idea about the engineering hurdles. I bought an FS7 recently after renting that or c300mk2 last couple years. I have all EF lenses though and if I get a body with AF, I don't want to buy new lenses and so the AF will be wasted. AF will probably shepherd me back to Canon, especially if the C300MK3 is a hit. I don't love the FS7 but it's very popular here and the C300mk2 has no 4k60p
The Canon G60 isn't available in my country. How is the autofocus of the Canon XF400?
---Edit---
I just saw on a local dealer website the Canon EOS C100 Mark II for a tad higher price than the Canon XF400, both are new, but are of parallel import, not Canon official representative. Having quite a few EF and EFS glass, it looks like the C100 Mark II would be a better option for me.
It tilts up when it's to the side but it's an unwieldy camera to hold (at least as easily as a traditional camcorder). But if it's against your gut, you can really use anything at that point.
Ideally, you want a palm-sized 8K handycam that weighs 2 lbs and is loaded with specs (for great 10-bit 4:2:2 4K/60p), and has a f/1.8 lens from 20-100 mm.
Just a powerful little machine you can throw in the bag and use to capture high-quality images without the fuss of lenses and ND filters.
The iPhone 11 Pro could really get a lot done for you here. But yes, makes me fill ill as well. Until you put the footage onto the computer and realize it's worth it. Very worth it.
I just did two jobs today with the C100 and it was a long time since I used it last. Looking at footage later during the day it looked really nice. But I think Canons AF sucks so I never use it except for occasional object tracking. For faces it's so bad and I'm spoiled by how well Sonys recent AF works so nothing else will do anymore.
The problem is that for some bizarre reason Canon's AF does not perform consistently in every model since the very good 1DX Mark II from 2016.
That camera was/is great with faces long before any Sony was.
With that said, if I had to choose a current leader then I think it would be Sony too. They have been improving since their first usable AF camera - the a6300 - and every model is getting better and better.
