Covid camera!

why did you sell the sigma 24-105, Chris? And is it possible that tamron AF performance on sony is exceptional?
The Sigma was great. No argument with its optical performance. Its just that it was a bigger heavier lens and f4.0. With a Speed Booster it became and f2.8 obviously but that made it bigger, longer and heavier. For most of my work I found the 28-75 Tamron to be the one I often picked up for use on both the FS7 and the A7III. Also if on a gimbal the weight and the shorter lens extension make it easier to balance. Combine that with more accurate AF on the Sony it makes for a better choice than the Sigma in my book. Basically the AF performance displayed by David Oastler in the following vids is something I would agree with.

Ahalpert.

You have brushed across the nikon Z lenses.

I may live to regret this standpoint but this is my current standpoint..

Like many 'DSLR' cameras the nikon does not bolt properly to a tripod plate (actually the Z6 is near unique in having a bottom hole as well as a 1/4 in female). This is a weakness that ruins 'DSLR' cameras for video use as they tend to spin when knocked or a F_Z mortor is used. I find 'DSLR' cameras work much better when a second tripod screw is used. In the case of the nikon that is with use of the lens converter, in the case of my other small cams (GH4 and BMC micro) they are provided with a second screw by the use of a speedbooster.

It is therefore my current plan to keep the adapter permanantly in place when using the camera and use two screws to attach the camera to the arca style 100mm tripod plate.

I am not therefore currently considering z mount nikkor lenses .. only F mount (and Gmount ?)

I currently have my 10-24 and 70-200 in G mount needing only a mid 24-70 or 24-100. I also have many F manual lenses.

By G mount I mean an F mount with no physical iris adjustment on the lens.

Gmount also fit GH4, FS7, BMC micro, my other cams.

That makes sense.

Then I guess my vote is a Tamron 16-300 DX superzoom plus a Nikon 24-70. I've used the Tammy 18-270 happily for years and was always jealous after they released one that went down to 16mm.

But you could still consider the z mount 16-50 for purely handheld use. It's so cheap and tiny, you wouldn't even notice it hanging around your neck
