FS5: couple quick question on the FS5

Just a couple things I'm have issues with and was wondering if anyone else has had theses issues and what the solution is. One is when I have the camera unused for 1-2 days and I turn it on, it starts out with the time zone screen and it always happens when I take the batteries out to be charged. I thought maybe there was a internal battery like a watch battery that needed to be changed but I don't know. What is weird is yesterday I was in a hurry so I just rushed through and set it as is, not the accurate time but when I imported the footage it had the correct time that it was shot. Maybe the internal GPS fixed it. Which I don't know I have not set that up at all yet.

The other is a solution rather than a glitch, which I have a couple more bugs I can't figure out either, but when on the tripod I like to use a separate lanc controller on the tripod arm. Which means I have to take the side hand grip off the camera and unplug it, because my big fingers can reach that plug behind the grip, so I can plug in the lanc. Does anyone have a splitter or something rigged that maybe I could plug both the grip and the lanc in at the same time. And just leave it on the camera when going hand held?

I have been shooting it like crazy and I love the thing, just wanting to dial it in a bit more. I was shooting a bunch of slow mo yesterday and that stuff is amazing. I had my canon 300 2.8 and a 2x converter on there and way cool. There were a couple of strange moments when it made the lens focus to the nearest setting and the stabilizer kicked in momentarily and the f-stop indicator wouldn't show on the LCD but the camera kept recording fine, and then it would go back to normal. Sony needs a firmware update as there are other little electronic bugs, but I really don't have any complaints at all. Its always the little things.

Thanks

Scott

Seems like the first issue maybe an issue with the internal battery. That's certainly not normal operating procedure. I never have to re-enter that data with mine and it's sat here for almost a week unused over Christmas.

James, That is a good idea, however I can't find one that is a 90 deg, I think that male end would interfere with the hand grip as it would stick straight out. I wish sony would have put that jack in a more accessible position so I could just unplug it. Do you think there is a draw on the circuit if it is just plugged in at the same time? As I would only use one at a time.

matt, is there a way to change the internal battery? or is it a Sony repair thing?

I have no idea I'm sorry. First port of call would be to contact the retailer you bought it from as any issues will be covered under warranty.

I have heard of the battery problem if you use Swit or other after market batteries, but not the Sony BPU's.

The LCD going off may be just if you have VF to auto. So it switches to VF from the LCD when you put your eye up to it. It will switch any time the light falls on the sensor in the VF senses lower light, like if you pass your hand over or close to the VF. The solution is to use the switch on the LCD instead of auto in the menus.

As far as a Lanc splitter, there are many available as pig tails. You can also make them up easily yourself if you know how to solder and use heat shrink tape, you can buy 2.5mm stereo jacks in most audio/TV stores there are also many on Amazon many of them right angle plugs and jacks. They are standard for a lot of cel phones and computer audio interfaces, make sure you get the TRS (Sterio not mono or 4 terminal TRRS ones) 2.5 mm versions.

Thanks olof for the info on the stereo jacks, Ill find them. On the LCD I didn't mean that the screen went off, I understand that auto relationship with the evf, it was just the f-stop indicator displayed in the lcd, in other words the camera couldn't find the lens info and display it. It just happened periodically.

I had the same issue with my FS5 today. I left it without the sony battery in the camera to charge overnight and I had to redo all my time and TC settings. I only have one battery currently since the 2xBPU60 kit was not available at my local store. I ordered it and waiting for the arrival of the kit.

I left the camera without a battery in tonight also, will see if problem happens again tomorrow morning.
