Couple lets baby starve to death while rearing virtual child

It pisses me off that you have to be a certain age and/or get a license to do some of the most menial tasks, yet any moron can have a child. :-Mad(DBG):

I know it wouldn't solve the worlds problems but I still don't get it.

heartbreaking. how can someone not feed a baby when she is crying?

Kinda hard to hear the poor thing crying (assuming it still has the energy to cry) when you're leaving it home alone for 12 hours straight so you can go to an internet cafe.

So very, very depressing.

Wow. I'm Korean and something like this makes Koreans look bad. I've been to Korea once and I remember seeing tons of people just in internet cafes, playing games non stop, but this is an extreme situation. But there are always those who get too sucked into the virtual world. For instance, Americans and World of Warcraft. Now that's one game where people begin to forget there priorities.

It's not like it was Battlefield or COD.

Yah but in those games, theres no incentive to keep playing for hours on end. I remember playing COD and BF but the games never kept me interested for too long. For people, games like WOW and Second Life are an escape from reality. No responsibilities and playing these games give them a feeling of accomplishment. There are hundreds of sad stories of internet and gaming gone wrong.

That's true but this is only one of the many stories that I've heard from Korea. I'm not bashing on my own country but there are some crazy things happening there. I remember watching a Korean television show where they go undercover and help people, and a mom who locked up her father and son, and treated them cruelly. I'm pretty sure things like this go on all through out the world, but I guess it just makes them look bad.

If the book 1984 had the would-be parents being tested to see if they were smart enough to HAVE a child... instead of a child being tested and failing for being too smart... people would have thought "hmm... yeah well... I dunno'... that might be a good idea".

I'm in full agreement with your post BTW... it blows my mind, but stupid people are breeding... and you'd have to get pretty radical to change that.

This is probably never going to stop. I keep hearing about stories like this.

Even non-reported cases of family members just neglecting regular activities. In high school, my moral teacher (one of my fave teachers) had a brother addicted to WOW (or was it everquest back then?) and his brother would just not show up to family events, dinners, and his life was crumbling around him while he played this game.

I get escapism. We all do it. Books, Movies, Games, it's a way to experience another life, stimulus. But some people get too engrossed in it. Once it starts affecting your real life, then there's a problem. I like to play games, but if my GF is giving signs that she needs attention or company, I shut it off.

It's funny, Star Trek mentions something a mental problem called Holo-addiction, where the person becomes too engrossed in the holo world and can't get out of it. This is pretty much the same thing, just in a more primitive form.

Just as having to get a drivers license solves the problems of Drunk driving and Reckless driving?

Good point... in fact, most of the worst drunk driving bozo's also tend to have either a revoked or suspended license.

Stupidity is stupidity. Race, culture, religion, gender matter not.
